She liked it!

The room for the panel with the three Stargate stars Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks was so full, they had to open a second one where the fans would be able to see the panel via video screen. To make up a bit for that, the stars first went there for some pictures and talk.

In the meantime, in the big room some music videos were shown - done by me and my brother. I had sent them in but had no idea whether they actually would make it to the screen, so I was happily surprised. And the audience loved them, laughed several times and cheered at the end. Especially for the "Holzmichel".

I have been told now that the three stars did see a bit of this video as well, without sound, just the subtitles, and were very puzzled about what was going on. Too bad I had no idea about this; I could have told Amanda at the autograph table. Next time! Maybe I should bring some CDs with me ;) If any of you want to see my videos, please sent me a message and I'll see what I can do! Here are some pictures of my five minutes of fame - this is now the how many time? I lost count ;)

Many thanks to you-know-who-you-are and Mericet for providing me with those pictures! Highly appreciated!

I guess this is mainly of interest for the Stargate fans on my friends list. Anne in the RDA forum has done a very detailed report of all the panels. I just read it and understood a bit more that I did not understand while seeing it live. Poor Rick was not the only one having trouble understanding the questions.

Thursday - Opening Ceremony and Richard Dean Anderson panel

Friday - Stargate trio panel with Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks
That's the panel where people with day tickets had to leave to go to another room where they only could see it via video screen, as the room was overcrowded. To make up for it, Rick, Michael and Amanda went to the other room to talk to them a bit. In the meantime, on the screen my old Stargate music videos were shown - Bruttosozialprodukt, Major Tom (by my brother) and the (in)famous Holzmichel. I was surprised as I had no idea whether they got my mail about them or not.

And apparently Rick in the other room even caught the end of the Holzmichel (without sound), and read along the English subtitles I had put up, and was sad when he "died" and happy when he lived again. I probably am the only person in the whole wide world who actually rather had been in the small room for this. What an honor!

Saturday - Amanda Tapping panel

Sunday - Stargate panel with Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Jay Acovone and Suanne Braun

And finally the reason why I went to Fedcon in the first place. They managed to get three of the original four of SG-1 together on stage, that has never ever happened before at any convention. You can imagine the lines but we still went through quite smoothly after one hour wait.

The three of them together on stage were hilarious. While Amanda at least tried to seriously answer some questions, Michael was just laughing all the time about Rick's antics, and Rick's mostly used word was: "What?!?"

Here is a great illustration of that: Amanda and Michael facepalming, and Rick looking innocent:

Also, here you can see a really funny Fedcon video, with all sorts of fans in costumes, doing the "500 miles" song:

I hadn't planned to, but after the Amanda Tapping panel I spontanously decided I need a new picture with Amanda Tapping. I have one with her back from German City Con 2003 but I'm not looking too good on that one. THE HAIR!!! LOL

So, this one is much better. I asked for a hug:

Also, at the autograph session I gave her my little photoalbum with the Stargate action figures in Vancouver and she really liked it and looked a bit through it:

Also, she is on first place (of 22) of the favourite Fedcon guest, well deserved:

Jay Acovone has played Major Kawalsky in "Stargate" - a role, in which he died in already the second episode, which he loved to point out over the weekend ;) But he was back a few times in alternate universes. Nobody is really dead in sci-fi.

He also has been in so famous movies as "Terminator 3" and "Independence Day" and even though I recently watched "Cast Away" I did not realize that he was the pilot there. I need to check it out again.

I have met Jay Acovone once before, he was in Bensheim 2003 but sadly back then I took no picture with him. So I was very happy when he got announced for Fedcon. We both are 11 years older now but who cares.

He also said that he is not so much relying on the acting anymore now but is building houses. So at the autograph session, when I was the only one in line, I started to chat with him about building (I do drawings in an engineer's office). At first we needed to establish that I don't do the architectural stuff but we do more the concrete and reinforcement. And we talked about bracing walls which surely only is a fascinating topic when you know your stuff ;) It was really great to chat with him like that. And here's my picture:

One of the highlights of the recent FedCon for me and the guest that surprised me the most. A few days ago, I didn't even know his name... Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Scottish fella Tony Curran. You might know him from "Defiance", I know him as van Gogh in "Doctor Who". Lovely episode where the Doctor takes him to the present at the end with his time machine, and they visit the Louvre and he has tears in his eyes because everyone praises his paintings.

And Tony actually got a cheer from the Dutch fans when he pronounced van Gogh with the right "ch" at the start of the name - I had no idea! His panel was very funny, he talked in lovely Scottish. One story I remember is about him filming with both Kiefer Sutherland and his father Donald, and Kiefer did a scene where he pretended to be a German and spoke German rather well, and he always wanted to do that because his father had once done so in a movie back in the Seventies, which did deeply impress him. So later in the year Tony worked with Donald Sutherland and told him this story, and Donald laughed and said that he never told his son that his German was so bad it had to be dubbed by a real German LOL

I came to the photosession rather late and he loved my t-shirt with the Dalek doing Exterminating in the rain That's why he put his arm up like Gene Kelly, singing "I'm happy again". He didn't remember this at the autograph session though, so that's why he wrote what he wrote: "What the hell is this red head doing" and then announced that he was signing right over his arm, as he didn't like that his hand was cut off ;) Too funny. I love it.

Another funny episode from the autograph session. He called the girl before me "beautiful eye lady" but couldn't figure out what the color was. So he called her "beautiful eyes whichever color they are" and I said that as van Gogh he actually should know the color ;) We really had a blast chatting with him.
