I really enjoy reading this prequel to the "Gotham" series. It's called "Dawn of Darkness" by Jason Starr. Very well written and you can really hear the character voices.

So here's how to do a really quick, easy and lazy book ;)

I scanned and printed the cover from the real book. And figured why not use pages that are already glued together? From an old notepad for example? Just take off as many pages however thick you want your book to be, be careful to not destroy the glued part at the edge, then glue the cover around the edge and cut it. Voilá. Book done.

Another old link I found - this one is especially for [livejournal.com profile] alumfelga and everyone who enjoys the really funny half hour special Peter Davison made with lots of celebrities - from Doctor Who and elsewhere - for the 50th anniversary. If you don't know it, you can watch it here:
The Five(ish) Doctors

It has lots of cameos and funny bits. Even the families of the actors got involved. Great fun.

So imagine my surprise when there was actually fanfiction, written by [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler in the exact same style and equally funny!

I am cleaning my inbox (some of you may have wondering why I am commenting on months or years old stuff) and just found this recommendation again that I sent to [livejournal.com profile] analineblue a long time ago. In November 2014 to be precise. Wonder if you ever read it? ;)

So I'll be able to delete this message, I'll keep the links in here now. And maybe someone else may be interested as well.

I really love such clever fics.

In the first, Neal wakes up in his apartment but suddenly it is only a film set and everyone thinks he is this actor Matt Bomer and he has to get adjusted to this role.

http://archiveofourown.org/works/508802

And the second is the other way around, Tim gets a bang to his head on set and wakes up in White Collar land – and Neal actually recognizes that this is not “his” Peter and tries to teach him everything he needs to know as a “real” FBI agent.

http://archiveofourown.org/works/959706

Have fun!

Since I am in Indiana Jones mood since my last purchase I watched "Raiders of the lost Ark" today and it reminded me of this video which is very well done. I wonder if I ever shared it in here but since I didn't have an Indiana Jones tag till yesterday probably not. Go watch it!

For all the Sherlock fans at my friends list! Please click this link to a wonderful entry who has collected some awesome miniature work in the Sherlock world. Re-creating the famous living room, and someone even made figures of Sherlock and John.

And then there is also a tutorial about how to do Baker Street 221b in a matchbox. Simply awesome.

I don't often recommend fic, one has to be really outstanding for me to do so. So please believe me that this one is. I was just searching for a little whump bedtime story, and stumbled about this gem.

Summary: It's no secret that Jim Kirk will lay down his life for his crew. An alien race is holding five of Jim's crew hostage and he has to bargain to set them free. But all he has is himself. So what is he willing to sacrifice? Life, liberty, or limbs?

So yes, there is a bit of whumping going on, but this is not the central part of the story. The central part is the relationships between Kirk and his team, which are all written spot on, and there are short flashbacks for each one of them, and the end is so moving that it made me indeed cry. Which is a first for a whump fic.

The writing style is superb, each word where it belongs, slowly building up the pressure, until the end where not only Kirk crumbles, but the reader does as well.

So, if you are a fan of the young new Enterprise team of the Abramsverse, go read it. That's an order. And if you prefer the old team, read it anyway.

Funny side note, I only just yesterday watched the first new movie in full (after having given up the first time after only ten minutes and after grumbling all the past weeks and months about how these movies are cold and only special effects and that they don't make me feel anything etc. etc. but now they suddenly do) and this is the first story I actively sought out with the new team, while with other fics previously trying to read them with the old team in mind (which not always works).

I see the author has a list of White Collar fics as well. If they are as good as this one, I am surely checking them out. But not tonight.

Look what has arrived today! Isn't it amazing? If you like one too, you can order it here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ThePaperPonyPlace

There are also several Doctor Who ones and other shows. But I liked this one best. The pose is so powerful! I need to try something like that myself.

Some links to check out! Hope you like them as much as I do.

Anyone here fans of the Batman and Robin series from the Sixties? The one with the "Wham"? Check out these new figures from Hot Toys, I think they look really great! And they come with a lot of different hands for different poses, and Batman even has two more half faces for different expressions. Here are the pics:

And I cannot wait to buy the 12" Sherlock and John figures. Big Chief recently was on the "Sherlock" set and here are pictures of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman with their figures. And the third picture is just awesome. Love the small violin!

Also, this is totally awesome, someone made a miniature Gingerbread House. All the cookies and sweets used for decoration are made from clay, they look so real and good enough to eat! And the inside is decorated as well, I really love it. Check it out here:

(If you have seen this before, I already posted it in [livejournal.com profile] action_tales but wanted to share in my personal LJ as well)

Today I want to introduce you to some (action) figure theatre from artists. Here are some lovely pictures from photographer Christopher Boffoli. He uses tiny people - I think from model railways? I really love these, have a look here:

http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/tiny-peoples-wonderful-world

There is also an interview. And here at this link some more and other pictures:

http://twentytwowords.com/2013/01/15/mini-humans-navigating-life-among-normal-sized-foodstuff-19-pictures/

Also, Roy Tyson has joined the fun:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2396653/Roy-Tyson-artist-The-man-makes-little-people-look-like-theyre-taking-big-tasks.html

Some really great ideas there - maybe you get inspired as well? Hope you like the pictures!

Today I want to show you some awesome page. I found the link on [livejournal.com profile] sgamadison's LJ and I have to thank her highly for it. Because it's really great. The lady that does those pictures is obviously a Ben Browder fan. She buys all the 12" Cameron Mitchell figures from "Stargate" who comes in green uniform, and then buys lots of clothes to change them into all the characteres Ben has ever played. John Crichton from "Farscape" of course, and there is also the Sheriff from "Doctor Who". And lots more I don't recognize.

Here is an album explaing all the characteres: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.391982490915798.1073741830.391434894303891&type=3

And then there are lots of funny stories she does with them. She started to post them on her own page, here are some great pictures: https://www.facebook.com/beth.brown.330/media_set?set=a.190667517732723.46248.100003684278476&type=1

But now they have their own Facebook page, here is a link to all the albums, just have a look through it all (I admit I am not finished yet myself): https://www.facebook.com/AdventuresOfTheGuys/photos_albums

I love the way she poses them - they look so real. As if they really walk around and talk.

I'm not recommending fics very often (have I ever?) but I just read this one and I think it's really one of the best stories ever written. Which is even more amazing since it is the author's very first ever. It's about the aftermath of the year that never was - yeah, another YTNW fic, but this one is - different. It has not only broken Jack and Ianto trying to deal with it, it actually also has a real story, a case the Torchwood team needs to solve, and of course in the end it all comes together very nicely. The dialogues are spot on, and all the Torchwood team members in their uniqueness.

So if you have a bit of time (and should not actually be sleeping like I should right now) here is the first chapter by [personal profile] felt_so_alive, the other four are linked: http://felt-so-alive.livejournal.com/1913.html
