I am sorting through pics in my computer and found these. I totally had forgotten that I once took them for a friend, to show her how many figures are out there. So this is my collection of Stargate and Atlantis figures.

[personal profile] sgamadison has an interesting question on her site: Name your captain and tell me why! This was my reply. I guess you can call that meta. I never did anything like that before, but there is a first time for everything!

As it turns out, my three favorite hero leader guys Captain James Kirk, Captain Jack Harkness and also Colonel Jack O’Neill have a lot in common. And not only that their names all start with J. Hope you like it!

I certainly seem to have a type! The hero leader type.

All three are good looking great leaders. They have sworn to protect the country / Earth / universe, and they would rather let themselves get tortured to death than to betray that. They are larger than life. When they come into a room, they get all the attention without doing anything. They just ARE. They also protect their team on all costs, put themselves forward and to the front, do whatever is necessary to draw the attention of the bad guys towards them. Classic line: “Do with me what you want but let my team go!” Who wouldn’t swoon at that? I mean, seriously. I would trust each of them blindly and go wherever they lead me.

And their leading comes natural. They don’t need to enforce it usually, they easily get the respect they deserve. They lead with a smile on their face and much leeway. They allow their teams to think for themselves, and listen to their opinions and occasionally even change their mind if they are good. But if they have reason to reprimand you, out comes the steel! Then they can be hard and cold and sharp and unrelenting. You would not want to be on their bad side! But they are fair. They give you a second chance, to put things right.

Once in a while they are forced to make the bad decisions, and their teams / friends might hate them for it. Still, as Jack O’Neill once put it, “this is what they pay them the big bucks for”. Sometimes they need to decide between the fate of one human and the whole universe, and they are able to make that decision for the greater good, no matter the cost to themselves. They refuse to talk about it afterwards and rather crack a joke to not let see anyone what they really feel. That they have emotions at all. It gets all bottled up inside but sometimes it becomes too much to bear. Nobody knows much about their personal life anyway, and usually there is not much to talk about either. They are married to their ship / their work. They are the first in the morning and the last in the evening, and stay all night and go for days without sleep if necessary. Even if they are hurt, in pain; they stay on their post as long as necessary to get out of this alive. They always care more for others than for themselves. They think they screw up any relationship because of the mad working hours, long time away from home or the military secrets they need to keep.

But, and that is the beauty, each one of them has someone they can confide in, someone to trust, someone where they don’t feel the need to play a role and are able to open up, show their true self. For the two military leaders, that would be their CMO – outside their chain of command, equal in rank and a good friend for many years. Dr. McCoy for Kirk, Dr. Fraiser for O’Neill. Someone who has seen them in their darkest hours, hurt, in pain, who knows about the nightmares, every single secret, every broken bone. Someone who never would betray the trust put into them and who are able to give their valid input when needed and asked for. Or just a glass of Saurian Brandy. Who also know when they need to enforce that they are even higher in the chain of command and can overrule the captain / colonel for their own good, and when better let him be. A thing both Jack and Jim have in common – they try to get out of the infirmary / sickbay as soon as possible. They surely make life for their doctors not easy. They hate that place and all the prodding and probing with a passion. Probably because they spend so much time there… another Jack O’Neill quote: “Aliens are always poking me full of holes!” (and isn’t that true of Kirk also!). They don’t want anyone to see them weak. It goes against their pride.

Obviously, this is a bit different with Jack Harkness, but he also has someone who is always close when needed, Ianto. And just because he can’t really die doesn’t mean that dying isn’t still hurting. So he has his fair share of nightmares also, just different ones.

So, I can’t choose between those three alpha males. I just wish they would all meet and team up. The universe might not survive it though.

First part was here: Picspam part 1/2: Avalon 2006, Bishop's Palace, Wells - with Richard Dean Anderson & Amanda Tapping

On Sunday, the rain had stopped and we had beautiful weather. Just as well for our bus trip which started at the front of Wells Cathedral:

We squealed loudly when finding this place:

(not to be mixed up with "Screw SG-1" which I once wrote in all innocence many years ago and then wondered why everyone hated me)

This is probably only for the hardcore Stargate fans. I just found it again while cleaning my computer. This shows how creative fans are, and how you can do action figure theatre without any action figures. This is simply brilliant and utterly genious, so if you have some minutes, go here and check it out:

http://sg1screw.altervista.org/index.php?l=en

What I am talking about is the small things - casting a golden screw as Apophis, or a thicker screw as Hammond, or a female screw as Stargate, and let's not even start on the ring transporter or the sarcophagus... See if you can find all the little things!

These are the episodes:

Episode 1
The first adventure of the team SG1 Screw! Jack, Samantha, Teal'c and Daniel meet the Goa'uld on a distant planet. Will they accomplish their mission?

Episode 2
The team Sg1 Screw is on a mission on an alien planet to help its inhabitants, decimated by a hideous alien monster that has enslaved them. What will become of them?

Episode 3 - part 1
Jack, Daniel, Samantha and Teal'c visit a planet famous for metalworking. The team discovers an ancient artifact and accidentally releases a group of replicators that threatens to destroy the planet.

Rise of the Guardian
We made an episode with images taken from the video of Rise of the Guardian . This will also support those who don't have a fast Internet connection to enjoy this story.

The page also has special features and extras. And if this post is only for me to never lose the link again, but maybe some of you may enjoy it as well!

So *looks around* Any Karl Urban fans among us? I only knew him as Doctor McCoy in the new Star Trek movies so far, but have started watching "Almost Human" now and love it. I also plan to get "The Loft" from the library next week. That sounds like an interesting movie.
And yes, I know he also was in "Lord of the Rings", and no, I still don't plan to watch it. We'll see how long that lasts...

Today I watched episode 4. They said they were going to a cabin. As soon as they said it I knew there is only one cabin in Vancouver which has been seen in many movies and TV series - here is a screenshot from the episode:

 photo Huumltte 600 x 339.jpg

And here is a picture I took in 2008 while being in town for Gatecon, as I know this cabin as Jack O'Neill's cabin in Minnesota in "Stargate":

 photo Htte2.jpg

And just for fun a picture of Karl Urban from Episode 3. So yeah. As I said: Any fans of him around here?

The room for the panel with the three Stargate stars Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks was so full, they had to open a second one where the fans would be able to see the panel via video screen. To make up a bit for that, the stars first went there for some pictures and talk.

In the meantime, in the big room some music videos were shown - done by me and my brother. I had sent them in but had no idea whether they actually would make it to the screen, so I was happily surprised. And the audience loved them, laughed several times and cheered at the end. Especially for the "Holzmichel".

I have been told now that the three stars did see a bit of this video as well, without sound, just the subtitles, and were very puzzled about what was going on. Too bad I had no idea about this; I could have told Amanda at the autograph table. Next time! Maybe I should bring some CDs with me ;) If any of you want to see my videos, please sent me a message and I'll see what I can do! Here are some pictures of my five minutes of fame - this is now the how many time? I lost count ;)

Many thanks to you-know-who-you-are and Mericet for providing me with those pictures! Highly appreciated!

I guess this is mainly of interest for the Stargate fans on my friends list. Anne in the RDA forum has done a very detailed report of all the panels. I just read it and understood a bit more that I did not understand while seeing it live. Poor Rick was not the only one having trouble understanding the questions.

Thursday - Opening Ceremony and Richard Dean Anderson panel

Friday - Stargate trio panel with Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks
That's the panel where people with day tickets had to leave to go to another room where they only could see it via video screen, as the room was overcrowded. To make up for it, Rick, Michael and Amanda went to the other room to talk to them a bit. In the meantime, on the screen my old Stargate music videos were shown - Bruttosozialprodukt, Major Tom (by my brother) and the (in)famous Holzmichel. I was surprised as I had no idea whether they got my mail about them or not.

And apparently Rick in the other room even caught the end of the Holzmichel (without sound), and read along the English subtitles I had put up, and was sad when he "died" and happy when he lived again. I probably am the only person in the whole wide world who actually rather had been in the small room for this. What an honor!

Saturday - Amanda Tapping panel

Sunday - Stargate panel with Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Jay Acovone and Suanne Braun

And finally the reason why I went to Fedcon in the first place. They managed to get three of the original four of SG-1 together on stage, that has never ever happened before at any convention. You can imagine the lines but we still went through quite smoothly after one hour wait.

The three of them together on stage were hilarious. While Amanda at least tried to seriously answer some questions, Michael was just laughing all the time about Rick's antics, and Rick's mostly used word was: "What?!?"

Here is a great illustration of that: Amanda and Michael facepalming, and Rick looking innocent:

Also, here you can see a really funny Fedcon video, with all sorts of fans in costumes, doing the "500 miles" song:

I have just been told that on Saturday, at Fedcon, where some of my old funny Stargate videos were played at the big screen while we were waiting for the panel of the three SG-1 members Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks, they have seen and commented on them in the other room (there was a screening to a second room because so many wanted to see the panel). How cool is that? Now I wish I had been in the other room!

If anyone wants to see them, they are in German but do have English subtitles and I am happy to share via PM if you promise not to upload them anywhere. We might want to wait a few days as the traffic is high at the moment, lots of people have contacted me about them. It was great to sit there and hear their laughter, many apparently didn't know them before (I feel old, with one I have even won a video contest at a convention years ago)

Summary: Christmas, seen through the eyes of the man who has the most stress during these days

Watched from above

‚I wonder if I’m getting old’, the man with the many names thought. He was known as Weihnachtsmann, Papa Noël, Joulupukki or Sinterklaas but in this part of the world he was called Santa Claus. The names changed, but the anticipation in children’s eyes was the same everywhere in the world. Luckily he had up until the 6th of January to distribute gifts to countless children. He could never accomplish that amazing feat in just in one night.

But surely he must have made a mistake. He looked once more at his list. It was the year 1995, and right, there was the name: “Charlie O’Neill”. He had a new baseball glove in his sack for him. But the house where he was standing before looked odd and cold. It was as if for a long time it had not heard the sound of a child’s laugh.

Santa Claus looked carefully through the window. In one corner stood a Christmas-tree, but its lights were out. And the room was barely lit. At the table sat a man and a woman, silent. The woman looked as if she had been crying.

Santa Claus watched with growing anxiety through the window. He remembered very well Christmas one year ago when he had found a happy family there. The little boy couldn’t sleep because of the excitement and repeatedly came down the stairs. Eventually his father shepherded him to the bed, covered him up and told him that Santa Claus only would come when he was asleep. That convinced the little boy and he finally closed his eyes. His father sat a while longer at his bedside before going downstairs where he embraced his wife and gave her a kiss.

But that was last year... )

I am putting together a photoalbum with all the pictures with stars I have taken during the past ten years (I filled a hundred pages already and the latest one, Fedcon, isn't going to fit into there anymore!) and found this again: German City Con 2003 in Fürth, at the Meet & Greet on Friday evening. When JR Bourne came to our table, no free chair was left for him. He spontanously decided to sit on my lap.

Now let me tell you, as thin as this guy is, after a while he became quite heavy! *snigger*
