La Cage Aux Folles with Uwe Kröger and Dieter Landuris

Just home from seeing "La Cage Aux Folles" - sadly not with John Barrowman, which I still regret missing (I only had found out in September 2009 that he was actually singing so that was a bit late for it) but with Uwe Kröger as Albin and Dieter Landuris as Georges, who both also were very good. It was a bit weird hearing the songs in German but it worked. I can't decide which earworm I am having right now, it's a mix between "Song on the Sand" and "La Cage Aux Folles"
We laughed a lot, there were even homages to Dinner for One and Elizabeth, and lots of great guys in great costumes. Also the same guys just in speedos for a scene outside which also was very much appreciated by the audience

For the finale even the uptight parents of Anne donned feather boas and dresses which was a nice idea. And of course all of them wearing simple white at the end - stunning.

There is a video you can watch. Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/staatsoperette.dresden/videos/vb.115777418502502/1032220490191519/?type=2&theater

OMG, that was awesome! Thank you for posting. I never thought I'd see something from that show sung in German. How cool!

I'm on you tube now, looking up Barrowman in the 2009 London production. You may never hear from me again, lol!

It was a co-operation with Salzburg in Austria, that's why we had some stars for the main roles, usually our theatre does these productions with its own people.

Here is the trailer from Salzburg three years ago, which shows you some different scenes if you like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY_xBs8Rtp8

And if you look for Uwe Kröger La Cage Aux Folles, you'll also find some filmed scenes, like him learning how to walk like a man with the men in speedos around.

Before I became aware of it through John Barrowman, I had never heard of it. Not even of the famous "I am what I am". No idea under which rock I was living. I knew that Robin Williams had once played in the movie, but had never seen it either, and I don't know if they also sing in there?

It was a bit weird at first hearing it in German, but knowing the English lyrics, the translations were well done. I loved especially "und unter dem Rock - krieg keinen Schock..." (and under the skirt, don't be shocked) that the Cajelles sang.

We also had three women among the Cajelles which surprised me - is that usual or were they just short of men?

Have you found something from John on youtube? There isn't much I'm afraid. There used to be a clip called "1st night of La Cage" but I think it is gone. It had interviews mixed with some scenes from the stage. I have it downloaded and could upload it for you if you like. There are some videos that someone filmed, but mostly they only show the black curtain instead of the stage:

That's it. If you find more, please let me know!

He also was was dressed as Zaza in "Loose Women", which is a very funny interview, him telling about shaving all his bits (leaving on the shaving cream all day long down there which HURTS) and showing his frillies (Edit: This is the right link): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mn7H4RCCTk

And he was in the Paul O'Grady show, also dressed as Zaza (different dress) and sang "I am what I am": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91o_3NBpPxo

That's the ones I know about. And there are the famous promotion pictures where he stood on a street:

I also really love the red dress: http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/hrstumpde/Soundtrack/Broadway/38_la_cage_aux_folles_01jpgdisplay.jpg

And you can find lots more pictures from the actual stage in the different dresses and scenes, so you can picture it like that.

Oh gosh, thank you thank you for all these links!

Yeah, last night I only found a few vids, and none were good, or close to the stage. I'd say more, but I've got to do stuff before going to work.

Thanks, I can't wait to check these out. I'll let you know when I do :-)
