I had to check the word "glomp", never heard of it before. I love that there is a word in English that describes the gesture. One of my favourite words in English that don't have a 100% fitting, one word translation into Polish is "creepy". We need to encorporate the word.
I have to admit, I never read "Around the world in 80 Days" (I tried to read "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seasand", but got bored and never tried anything else from Verne), and the only information about the eighty days journey I have is an old Polish animated movie with Bolek and Lolek: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolek_and_Lolek In the movie, old Phileas Fogg decides to give his fortune to a person who would travel the world in 80 days, and Bolek and Lolek accept the challenge. They have many adventures, for example they appear in Japan where they see the film "Godzilla" being made :) So all the adventures were probably made up for the movie. Now I will know the original story (or something close to the original story since, as you say, people point out differences)!
You talk about season 2, but season 1 is the eighty days journey, isn't it? They don't end the season in 20th day and say "to be continued"? Please tell me they don't :)
The role does sound like a perfect role for David, yes. You can write "the Doctor" instead of "Phileas Fogg" in the sentence above and it's all true. It also fits DI Hardy, Crowley, Benedick and even Hamlet to some extent. He can go from funny to dark or emotional in a second.
