Some close ups from the party scene
I forgot, in addition to yesterday's post , I had also taken some close ups from the party where you can see the details better.
Planes on the board, also John has several sail boat models in his house, he says it represents their relationship - he is the boat that wants to sail away into all directions, and Scott is the keel that keeps him grounded.

John loves his Champaign:

Charlie looks rather hungry:

Sorry, I have so many new action figure picture ideas at the moment, that I never find time to post the old ones, but they will get here finally. One day. Soon.

I'd love to see a con with John and George (& Brad) Takei; both are very vocal on LGBT rights and it would be a great con if that happened, especially since there are so many states here using hate laws to cause problems, even for gay families. I worry about my adopted daughter; even though she's very careful, still one does have those idiots out there...

I have learnt quite a lot during my years doing these pictures with my friends though. You should see our first ones. We didn't even have a background back then and you could see potato chips bags lying around and all the figures that were not needed in the scene. Awful. So the next year I made someone hold a white sheet of paper as a background. Then I upgraded to wooden shelves which would stand on their own, no need for someone to hold them. Then someone had used my floor lamp to lighten the scenes, but it was heavy to hold. So my brother bought me little lamps which you can put on the table. Very professional!
Also, from watching TV shows, I have learnt a lot about how to pose the "actors". At first we were just photographing what was there, but often some faces were hidden. In TV, you can see they are always standing in a way so you can see everyone's face, even in the background. So I try to do that now. It helps if I have a "story board" in my head, then I can do close-ups and everything, as I know what the dialogue will be. And if necessary, I remove the figures in the foreground, to only photograph the background.
While I would have loved to work for theatre or movies as a set designer - it surely is great and interesting fun - I know that those jobs are stressful and you always have to hit a deadline and travel a lot, and I am more happy with a boring 9-5 job. I travel enough to see John Barrowman or David Tennant on stage ;)
That would be an interesting discussion indeed. Maybe you could tweet it to John when he is online? He might like the idea.
Wasn't there an US senator recently who came out? The world is changing, albeit slowly. You may know or may know not that the German foreign minister is gay, as well as the mayors from Berlin and Hamburg. And nobody gives a damn. Certainly not the young people anymore. Once all the old people have died, hate will die out with them. I am positive of that. I wish you all the best to your and your family!
