Picspam: Dresden, Großer Garten

Yesterday we got our first snow of the winter. I did not want to take the same pictures like last year (of my street and the little park where I work), you can see them here if you like: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/187916.html

We usually don't get snow for very long in Dresden so deep down in the valley, so it is always exciting for children. After work I did a quick walk in our big park in the city center.

The ducks and swans have only a small piece of lake left to swim in:

I was looking whether it was safe already to get the skates out, but maybe better not:

The building at the other side is a little restaurant / café called "Carolaschlößchen" (the lake is called Carolasee, named after our last queen)

That looks very nice! :)

I haven't seen as many ducks the whole summer as I've seen today and last Sunday...

Thankyou for sharing ^_^

Lovely pictures! The ducks there still have some free water then - well, I am going to post something soon:-)

The first two are awesome! :) And yes, it doesn't look skating-safe to me.

Stunning photos! The area in which you live is so pituresque. We had our traditional "first week of January" snow last night, but there isn't enough of it to be pretty.

Oh waht beautiful pics

Pretty! My neighborhood was supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow today and let's just say the weatherpeople underestimated the amount. But by midweek it's supposed to warm up and rain so it will be fine.

Uh, but when it becomes warm and thaws and then freezes again then it becomes very slippery!

I like the snow staying for a while. Often it thaws the next morning already. If it stays cold for one more week, maybe next weekend I can do some skating. Not on this pond, there is another smaller one which freezes easier. No ducks in there.

The snow is so pretty there...Toronto is such a big city that the snow doesn't last in a pristine white colour but quickly turns grey/black from the exhaust of cars.

Several years ago when I used to live closer to Lake Ontario than I do now (I'm several blocks more north east of it) I used to feed the ducks & swans along the boardwalk - I miss that and your pic is a sweet reminder!

Yeah, at the streets it is also dirty, but this is a big park (not as big as Central Park in New York, I want to walk through this one day). It also includes our Zoo.

Is it still allowed to feed ducks where you are? I used to as a child as well, but now there are signs everywhere to not throw bread into the water, as it is not good for them and also the water turns bad if there is too much of it.

Not sure if we can feed the ducks anymore now that I think about it...we used to give them birdseed which I seem to remember reading somewhere was ok for them to eat.

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2017-01-21 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, birdseed makes more sense. Over here it used to be just old bread.

At our zoo, there are also stations where you can put an Euro in and get some food that is save to feed the animals.

It's been a long time since I've been to our zoo - I can't remember if there are any feeding stations but I'm inclined to say no as there are a lot of signs that say "do not feed the animals"!

Is the snow still there, or is it gone now? My area is covered in snow for few weeks now. It's nothing like winter of the century or anything, but I could use some warm weather. Snow and ice looks best in pictures :)

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2017-01-25 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, still there! It thawed a little, but then new one fell. There is ice now where it thawed. Children enjoy sledding, and up at the mountains people go for skiing. The region needs the tourism.
