Our local flower shop at the street corner always has the best shop window decorations. They are for sale also, I often have bought something I've never seen anywhere else before. I want to show you the winter decoration they have right now as it is way too cute. More detailed pictures under the cut.

Yesterday we got our first snow of the winter. I did not want to take the same pictures like last year (of my street and the little park where I work), you can see them here if you like: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/187916.html

We usually don't get snow for very long in Dresden so deep down in the valley, so it is always exciting for children. After work I did a quick walk in our big park in the city center.

The ducks and swans have only a small piece of lake left to swim in:

I was looking whether it was safe already to get the skates out, but maybe better not:

The building at the other side is a little restaurant / café called "Carolaschlößchen" (the lake is called Carolasee, named after our last queen)

Bear with me - we are so deep down in a valley that we seldomly get snow and when we do, it never stays long so I am always getting quite exited about it.

I took the first pictures with the sunshine and the walk along the river Elbe back in January. Three weeks ago, in February, I photographed the crocuses where the snowmen had been. And last week I suddenly awoke to a beautiful winter landscape and the poor crocuses barely got their head out of the snow. But every tree and every fence on my way to work was worth a picture. It was very wet snow and so it was laid on trees very thickly. Sadly, it didn't last, in the evening it was thawing again and it's long gone now.

As usual, many more pictures under the cut!

Spot the difference!
Hint: It IS NOT "Snow"!

This is the view from my balkony, over the soccer field and allotment gardens till the houses where my parents still live.

I took some more snow pictures today!

And then I did something useful with the snow on my balkony. It was supposed to become a camel, but because of its sturdy legs and short neck, I thought it rather looks like a turtleso I quickly adapted and made it what it clearly wanted to be LOL

At the moment I have 20 cm of snow on my balkony, and counting. It's snowed for the past few days now. Since Dresden is situated deep in a valley, usually the snow thaws away quickly, so I always love when it stays a bit longer.
I just realized that I never posted the pictures from the year 2010, when we had even more and the trams, busses, trains and planes got into serious trouble. But I hope I caught the beautiful side of it! So I want to show you how beautiful Dresden looks in the snow.
If you are interested in seeing even more Dresden in the snow, here are some more pictures when the Doctor visited me last year: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/39239.html

And now enjoy and don't forget to click the LJ cut to see all pictures!

It's still snowing in Germany and so I thought I'd dig out another one of my early posts which not all of you might have seen the first time around, when my friends list still was non existing.

SG-1 has fun in the snow - with a snow ball fight, sledding, making snow angels and building a snow man. Klick on the link to the original post:

Apologiez to those that already know it - the next post will be entirely new.
For the others - enjoy!
