Zebras in Dresden

On Monday in Dresden - four Zebras escaped from a circus and were running right through the inner city.

Sad that one of them died :(

But not what you expect to see coming down the road at you!

Yeah, definitely not! And it was right in the middle of the city. There are lots of videos and pictures. I didn't see it myself though.

We also had a moose once inside an office:

LOL! I like that it was near the canteen too!! Maybe it was just hungry?! :D

LOL yeah that must be it!

I haven't read the full article so I don't know if it was mentioned, but apparently some workers wanted to go for their lunch break when they encountered the moose and then went back to the office, saying there is a moose on the floor. At first nobody believed them of course ;)

Kind of scary, but kind of cool but so sad one of them died!

Yeah, in a way it's funny and sad at the same time! Now there are protests again that animals don't belong into a circus but there would be not much left of a circus without them I guess.

In the comments I also posted the link to the moose that happened to stroll into an office many years ago:

Wow, not something you see every day! It's a shame one died, but at least it was only one.

Yeah, I wonder if it soon would have died anyway if it had a weak heart. Poor thing.
Definitely not something you see every day!

Wow! We've had a wallaroo in our backyard, and had to save a wallaby from the neighbors pool, but moose and zebras are a little bit bigger and more impressive than that XD

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2019-06-08 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah definitely!
Aw the wallaroo sounds cute though! Did you take a picture? I love them hopping around.

We also have wolves now in Germany. They had been extinct but they made a program getting new ones, and the population is growing. They are not allowed to be hunted but there are problems with them getting to sheep farmers and killing all those sheep, even if they are fenced in. They get money for the killed sheep from the government but it seems to spread more and more.

No, we were more concerned with getting it out of the yard, plus it was too dark anyway.

I wish we'd taken a photo of the one that ended up in the neighbours pool though!

It's good to see they are reintroducing wolves to different areas now, I wish they could/would do that with dingoes here in Aus.

People didn't seem scared or as disturbed as I expected. But everyone's already seen "Madagascar", right? :D

Yeah, I am really puzzled by that mobile phone video, I would have been outta there if it came straight at me!

Hah, very fitting clip!

[identity profile] alumfelga.livejournal.com 2019-04-06 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too!

Do I understand correctly that one zebra died? That's unfortunate :(

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2019-04-06 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, apparently the stress was too much. They already had caught it but it got a heart attack.
It wasn't even the circus owner's fault, someone else left a fence open. Now he has to deal with the loss of the zebra as well as having to pay a fee.

I'd just live them alone to become the new symbol of the city known as "The Four Zebras of Dresden" (I think that sounds pretty cool).

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2019-03-20 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting idea! We would need to change the city arms then. Currently we have a lion:

You don't have lions though. But you have zebras. Also think about what a talented graphic designer could do with four zebras, patterns and all. I think it would be wicked.

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2019-03-21 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's why I find this idea so intriguing! I can already see it!

[identity profile] topum.livejournal.com 2019-03-21 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Forget running with the bulls in Pamplona, try running with zebras in Dresden instead! I really think it was a huge opportunity.
