Star Trek - Skiing and sledding

I have a friend on Twitter who is always decorating the shop window of her local pharmacy. Easter, carnivale, Christmas... and last week she did a winter theme with skiing. Check out the pictures here:

A long long time ago a friend had made little skis for me, from coffee stirrers but I never have done anything with them as I did not like the skiing poles which were just straws.

So I got inspired and I went to look whether I could find something better in my stash. The metal rods are from file folders I believe. I also tried out spaghetti as they were lighter for Chakotay to hold up in the air.

The hill, made from styrofoam, without the "snow":

The snow I use is a sheet that sometimes new technology things come wrapped in:

The little slalom posts I made with tooth pricks and paper for the flags:

I don't know how it's in America, but on the past weekends there were some headlines in Germany with people all rushing to one place where there is snow,

It wouldn't surprise me if it was happening in the US, too, but I haven't seen it on the news. That's really awful that people are leaving a mess after themselves :(

and second, I learnt a new word! I don't even think we have a German word for those ski baskets? Have you ever heard that before?

That was a new word for me too! :) (I don't ski / have only gone skiing in Russia as a kid, so don't know any of the English skiing terminology. "Basket" wouldn't have occurred to me as a term for it -- it doesn't look much like a basket!)

And hehe, I'm enjoying your continuing Winter Sports edition of action figure theater :)
