Star Trek - Skiing and sledding

I have a friend on Twitter who is always decorating the shop window of her local pharmacy. Easter, carnivale, Christmas... and last week she did a winter theme with skiing. Check out the pictures here:

A long long time ago a friend had made little skis for me, from coffee stirrers but I never have done anything with them as I did not like the skiing poles which were just straws.
So I got inspired and I went to look whether I could find something better in my stash. The metal rods are from file folders I believe. I also tried out spaghetti as they were lighter for Chakotay to hold up in the air.

The hill, made from styrofoam, without the "snow":

The snow I use is a sheet that sometimes new technology things come wrapped in:

The little slalom posts I made with tooth pricks and paper for the flags:

Date: 2021-01-10 05:44 pm (UTC)How on earth you can make all these tiny things work for you!?
I love the hill with the snow but Chakotay has a sexy skiing style and Kathryn looks utterly professional.
Haha, but those silly two (B´Elana and Tom) are rather too daring, eeeeeee!

action figures
Date: 2021-01-10 06:27 pm (UTC)that's a riot!
i guess they don't need ski parkas,
they're space people!
; )

Date: 2021-01-10 06:43 pm (UTC)Did you see my Merry Christmas picture? There I made them tiny scarves at least. I thought about using them for the skiing but then figured they might fall if they tangle in them ;)

Date: 2021-01-13 10:17 pm (UTC)The firs are just from one of those dollar tree shops where you can get all kind of decoration. I always keep my eyes open!
I don't know how it's in America, but on the past weekends there were some headlines in Germany with people all rushing to one place where there is snow, for skiing and sledding (with children), even though the lifts are closed of course and also the restaurants.
So there were traffic jams everywhere around this place, and finally on the third weekend the police had closed the streets. But once the people had gone home, it was discovered that they left all their trash in the town, just the food thrown out of the car windows, and worse, also their excrements since there were no open toilets... I can only shake my head.
In the dollhouse group, were everyone is crazy like me in creating things from trash, someone said she used snaps for doing ski baskets. First, what a wonderful idea (as I did not know how to attach my rings to the poles) and second, I learnt a new word! I don't even think we have a German word for those ski baskets? Have you ever heard that before?
Also, even though I had everything already cleared away, I then thought of another situation and put it back because I HAD to do this:

Date: 2021-01-17 05:40 pm (UTC)It wouldn't surprise me if it was happening in the US, too, but I haven't seen it on the news. That's really awful that people are leaving a mess after themselves :(
and second, I learnt a new word! I don't even think we have a German word for those ski baskets? Have you ever heard that before?
That was a new word for me too! :) (I don't ski / have only gone skiing in Russia as a kid, so don't know any of the English skiing terminology. "Basket" wouldn't have occurred to me as a term for it -- it doesn't look much like a basket!)
And hehe, I'm enjoying your continuing Winter Sports edition of action figure theater :)

Date: 2021-01-16 11:02 am (UTC)Now that proper snow is falling - it looks like a Winter Wonderland outside, wonderful! - I have managed to do some more pictures with real snow this morning. Stay tuned!
And with the others a conclusion with them in sickbay should also be coming. Friends on Twitter had the idea. I am busy as ever!

Date: 2021-01-13 10:40 pm (UTC)I imagine it going like this:
"Captain, I thought you said we were going straight home! We have been here for three days already!"
"Quiet, ensign, go build a snowman or something."
I guess it would have been difficult to film, as they film mostly in a studio - even the caves are all studio - but Stargate has shown us that they could freeze a whole set and make it really cold so the breath would show and the ice and snow would not melt when Jack and Sam were stranded. I guess they did not have to act feeling cold!
Also, I couldn't resist doing two more ;)

I hope you are still well? Or considerably well, at least.

Date: 2021-01-13 10:10 pm (UTC)Earlier this evening we had a snowstorm combined with thunderstorm. Did you have that too? Apparently it was everywhere!
I have no idea how she managed to pull up one end of the coffee stirrers! I'll have to ask.
The poles in the first picture with Janeway and Chakotay are the metal rods from the last picture. Only the yellow ones in the slalom picture are spaghetti, as the others were too heavy for him to hold up in the air.
Someone said I should not tell all my secrets, it would take the magic of the pictures away. But I love sharing and showing others how easy it is, and hopefully inspiring some. One of my new Star Trek friends on Twitter has now also bought figures and accessories and what I already saw of her is promising, she's good in posing them. She also put them into a TARDIS box, saying "Wheeee!" LOL
I already had put all this stuff away to clear my table, when I thought of a situation I hadn't done yet. So I had to put it all up again but I think it was worth it ;) And now everone: Awwww!

Date: 2021-01-15 08:35 pm (UTC)I love hearing about how you make all this. It's like those behind the scenes videos: they don't take the magic of the movie away and often tell you how hard something that looks easy to achieve actually was. Or how many hours were spend to do something you can see or hear only for a second. Then you can appreciate someone's work even more.
There's a lot of snow in my area at the moment (the first proper snow this year) but there were no thunderstorms. It's below zero, so the snow is supposed to last at least a week.

Yes, finally the first proper snow this winter! It looks like a Winter Wonderland outside and I love it. Several centimeters high. Children are happy to race down the hills on sleds. Also there are snowmen popping up everywhere.
The pictures with the duck swimrings I took on Thursday morning and when I came home in the evening it already was less snow on the balcony, you could see the ground, but on Friday it started snowing properly and still is and I just took some more proper pictures of them rolling around in the snow, snoggling and having a snow ball fight ;)
I hope it will stay for a while too, it looks so pretty.
