Customizing: Janeway coffee mug

So here's what I have been up to. I wanted to make shiny coffee mugs but the first try with silver paint came out rather dull.




Then a friend suggested I use foil instead of paint. Thankfully I like to eat these wafers so had some at home.



Still it needed a handle. Originally I was going to make it with FIMO but another friend suggested using foam rubber instead. I looked through my stash and found this Christmas sign that I had gotten off a Christmas card. Perfect thickness!



The whole thing did not cost me a cent. I used the cylindric cover from a paintbrush, the foil and that plastic badge which looks like brushed silver (for the bottom of the mugs).

Okay, now THAT is cool! Nice use of new materials, and it came out really nice! I really like the idea of using a paintbrush cover, as the clear material makes the inside look metallic but different from the outside (more brushed) and gives the mug some structure and resilience.

Actually I used the same foil for inside like I did for outside. It was not easy to get it inside properly!
I only used that other metal sheet for the round bottom, as I thought that should look different and not so shiny. It is stiff plastic, I would have not been able to roll it up.

I should! But these were just quick pictures to show off what I had made. I can always make another proper one!

I don't drink coffee so I still am not sure whether I need a real sized one or not!
