AFT Doctor Who: The Doctors at the 50th anniversary special
So yesterday was the big day, and of course my Doctors wanted to come to the cinema as well to see their show on the big screen. I had to smuggle them in in my bag, as I hadn't bought a ticket for them. Then again, I probably could have, as old as they are, they could have gotten pensioner's discount. Anyway, here are some pictures of our journey to Chemnitz!
I already started to regret taking them before we even had taken off. They were fighting for the best seat in the car like children.
Eleven: "Adi, stop making yourself bigger than you actually are! Some of us also want some space here!"

Ten: "Stop tickling me all the time, Astra!"
Astra: "Just trying to help!"

Finally the dispute was settled and we could start. Didn't take long though before there was whining from the back seat.
Eleven: "Are we there yet? How much longer?"
Ten: "Should have taken the TARDIS, that would have been quicker. Could you get a move on, I desperatedly need to pee!"
Astra: "You should have gone before we started, what are you, Five?!?"

Finally we arrived in Chemnitz, and while searching for the cinema, we came about some of the sights of this city. This is one very famous thing, the head of Karl Marx. It's bigger on the outside. The monument also says "Workers of the world, unite!" in several languages. Why they put it actually into Chemnitz is unknown, because Karl Marx never has once set foot into this city. But the people living there have adopted it as their own now, and you can buy it in all sorts of shapes, including one made of chocolade. Nom-nom.

Eleven: "Oh no, it's the tickely-tickly hand again!"

Ten: "Look behind you, could we use this TARDIS to escape it?"

Eleven: "Nope, this is just a stone relievi, stupid!"
Ten: "So, what's this then?"

Astra: "This, if you must know, is the Stone Wood. Those are real trees which are millions and billions of years old and were fossilized. They are pretty famous and unique."
Eleven: "Boring! Can we take a picture in front of it?"

Astra: "Let me try some camera settings to get the best light of both you and the wood."
Eleven: "Let's sit down while she does that."
Astra: *exasperated sigh*

Finally we made it to the cinema and settled in our seats. But if I thought now they would be quiet, I needed to think again.
Eleven: "When is it finally going to start, I am running out of Popcorn here!"
Ten: "Didn't you hear what Strax just said? Popcorn can feel pain!"
Eleven: *bites into his Popcorn and makes crunchy noises* "Whoodidyajustsay?"
Ten: "We forgot our 3-D-glasses. Can you go and get us some Astra?"

After that the movie finally started, and it was phantastic. But you probably know that, as you have seen it yourself. Yesterday we did history, people, we got the Guiness Book award for the largest ever simulcast of a TV drama, following a global campaign from BBC Worldwide that saw "The Day of the Doctor" broadcast in 94 countries across 6 continents.
Looking forward to the 100th special in 12-D. I will be 90 at the time, so it is possible.
Disclaimer: None of those dialogues did actually happen. They are dolls after all, they cannot talk. Ow! Stop hitting me, Eleven! And you Ten, stop sulking! I promise you won't have to wear the rain coats ever again!

I was talking to Scottie about your entry and the 100th episode, he said that the 100th will have to win an award for being the largest interplanentary simulcast. xD Then the 200th will have to be intergalactic. ehehehe!

Glad you all enjoyed the 50th anniversary!
Also, those fossilised trees are really cool!
no subject
Yeah, it was wonderful! Just watched it again, as it was repeated at BBC3.
I remember those trees from my childhood when I was the last time in Chemnitz. Back then they were laying around outside, now they are under a roof. But you don't need to pay entry to see them.
Can you please tell me if there is anything odd about this entry? Like, bolded text which shall not be bolded? Because in the e-mail notification, I see bolded text, but not when I look at the actual entry. Just wondering if I need to change something.
no subject
Yes, I watched the repeat tonight as well. It was just as brilliant the second time around!

LOL at the dolls' adventure. They look so cute in their raincoats.
I don't think I've seen your 11 doll before. He seems really, really tan. Has he been laying out in the sun? ;)

Yeah, somehow I missed doing a proper "introducing Eleven" post. He was firstly featered in the garden swing pictures here: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/77198.html
People have commented on his tan then also, but in real life he actually looks ashen, grey. As if he was sick. I think they overdid it a bit there with the color. It's possible the pictures of Matt Smith they used as a reference, which also were kinda greyish.

It was wonderful to see it on the big screen! Also the 3-D worked well, it was not overdone. It's great to think that everywhere in the world fans were doing the same in the same minute. I hear for Australia it was very early in the morning.

^^
and yes, it was a great feeling...to be part of it...
a friend had seat K9!

Were you in Chemnitz as well? I am from Dresden actually, where even two cinemas played it - but they weren't on the list originally so we already had tickets when they got announced. They really should have made their mind up earlier. We even asked the CinemaXX and they said they don't see any interest. The "not interested" bought 175 seats in the first airing and 90 seats in the second airing...

here 2 big Cinemas showed it. There was such a demand that they both added a 2nd viewing for 22:45 (I actually went to this one, cause the ones 20:45 were nearly sold out and the rest tickets were not good seats)
When I got my ticket and a day later my friend's friend wanted to come along along, we were lucky to get the ticket beside us and they added another screening in one of the smaller screens.
So Berlin had 5 viewing and as far as I know, all were nearly sold out and we had the huge screens (490 seats). Actually Catching fire, was had to go to the smaller ones, we needed the space!
So I would say, alone in Berlin about 2.000 people watched it in cinema and a lot more at home on FOX.

We also often now go to the CinemaXX for all the National Theatre stuff, "Frankenstein" with Benedict Cumberbatch or "MacBeth" with Kenneth Branagh or "Coriolanus" with Tom Hiddleson and Mark Gatiss. Those all were wonderful experiences.

But it's still cool, if you are in the train and see someone watching the a christmas special (6th new season) on his tablet or find a sonic screwdriver on someones desk at work

But at a concert, you are not suddenly going: "BTW, do you know Doctor Who?" Without this, we might have never found out!
It's great that you have a group with meetings. We also meet from time to time in Saxony, just not as official.

And of course me and some of the girls playing with the action figures together. Always great fun.

Aber ist doch schön, wenn Du auch einen schönen Abend hattest. Was habt Ihr denn gemacht?

I loved the show. Loved it. I watched the first airing on BBCA so I was watching with everyone! Then of course I watched it again...and again....
:D

It was wonderful. You missed the 3-D effects in TV sadly. When they showed that painting from the site and it was in 3-D as well... also, at the beginning we got Matt Smith welcoming us to the 100th special in 12-D LOL Was that in the TV as well?

I really love that it was at the same time around the world. I hear Australians had to go to the cinmea at 7 AM... and in Russia it was like 1 AM... and in the US obviously in the afternoon.
The raincoats are just plastic bags which I cut open at one side. They worked surprisingly well!
Well, they don't have many sights in Chemnitz (which formerly was named Karl-Marx-Stadt) so they need to make the best out of the ones they have ;)

So, no there was nothing in the Boston area but I was very happy watching it at home with a friend. I thought it was so great to have it at the same time worldwide, and even better, for once there were no commercial interruptions on BBCAmerica because of the simulcast. That station is HORRIBLE with their constant commercial interruptions!

I haven't seen many 3-D movies yet (I think the first was "Fright Night" with David Tennant) and the look at London from the air and also the Gallifreyan picture did look really great. As did the cleavage of Elisabeth 1st LOL
I have heard with some Doctor Who episodes they even air them faster than they normally are, they speed them up to get the commercials in, so Eleven talks even faster than usual. I have a hard drive recorder now and once accidentally pushed the wrong button and that must have been exactly what those episodes sound like LOL
Near the end we lost the picture, we only had sound left. Several people got out their sonic screwdrivers, it was hilarious. Thankfully someone then came and we saw the whole scene again so we did not miss anything.

I watched a short film, about a half-hour long, in 3D when I was at Disney World last year. I had to take the 3D glasses off part of the way through, and it took quite a while for me to get my equilibrium back after it was over. I was so queasy! So, no 3D movies for me! I even have trouble with the short 3D segments during John's panto but at least they are short and I can always just take the glasses off and wait for it to be over.
If they had only had the important bits like the Gallifreyan picture in 3D (with instructions on screen: put your 3D glasses on now!) I could have gone, but with the whole thing in 3D? I think not.
I haven't noticed Doctor Who episodes airing faster on BBCAmerica, but they do love to leave out bits of episodes to make more room for commercials.

Was that Disney movie a regular movie or one of those where they throw you around in your seat, like in a roller coaster? Somehow I imagine that to be worse than an ordinary movie. Aside from 3-D, things have massively changed during the past years.
I realized this when I re-watched some old TV-programme from the Eighties. Not that long ago but it felt so different. The camera lingered loooong on the actor's face, without him saying anything. Long pans over the landscape also. Everything was slow and steady. Nowadays, the camera moves around all the time, shaky hand camera, which can make you queasy indeed. And there are so many quick cuts, it's hard to follow what happens.
Yeah, they cut out stuff but I read complaints once or twice indeed about faster speed as well.

No, Five would have remembered to use the bathroom before leaving. ;]p

You win the internet. Seriously. Can't stop laughing ;)
I just heard that some cinemas in Germany are airing it again on December 9th because of the huge interest. They NEVER shall tell us again there would be no interest! (that's what our local cinema told us when we asked, hence the need to drive to another town. In the end two cinemas in Dresden aired it as well, and despite being late to the party the sold out one viewing and half of the second.)

oh, and i thought *I* had it bad, with two delinquent elves living in my head! at least they don't run around in the real world!
(and now LJ is resetting while i'm trying to post... hope this doesn't show up twice.)
no subject
Nope, didn't show up twice. LJ had a new release where they changed stuff, that caused all the problems. Should be working again now.

Were you also able to see the special things, that came before the movie? The Strax introduction, where he told about the popcorn, and Matt and David and the 100th special in 12D? And the chin? I think there was a link on youtube once. Or was it included in the DVD?
The Adipose belongs to my brother, I once gave it to him as a gift ;) He is so cuddly. If you want to buy one, make sure to get the original, which you can recognize by the little tooth in the mouth. There are lots of fake ones out there actually.
The fun thing is, now reading it back - at the time I only had the Big Chief Eleventh Doctor, but now that I have the Tenth Doctor as well, he does indeed come with tiny 3D glasses! From that one episode, the blue and red kind. Too bad I didn't have them back then, that would have been hilarious.
Oh, what I didn't tell in this story - shortly before the end the screen suddenly went black. We still had sound but no picture. After they realized it, they stopped the broadcast, rewinded, and started again, so we saw the rest not exactly live. But in the time they tried to fix it, a lot of people in the audience got out their sonic screewdrivers, it was lovly to hear the noises! Also lots of people were dressed up in costume, lots of Tens and Elevens and also some Fourths could be seen. And girls in TARDIS dresses. This was the most fun for me. And I made some people turn their heads and grin when I placed my dolls in the seat ;)
In the beginning they only had reserved small rooms as they thought they would not sell many tickets, but they had to add more rooms and bigger rooms and a second screening later in the evening, I had no idea there were so many Who fans in Germany. In the end it was aired in 38 cinemas just in our country.
I love you inventing new dialogue ;) LOL
Meet you at the 100th anniversary then!

The little tooth is co cute, you can easily notice when a plushie hasn't got one. I can't imagine how Russell T Davies could be so sure that people will buy a toy of a creature originally made of human fat but he was right. The Adipose are just adorable.
"But in the time they tried to fix it, a lot of people in the audience got out their sonic screewdrivers, it was lovly to hear the noises!"
This is co cool. I imagine people pointing at the screen with their sonic screwdrivers, trying to fix the screen. It was bad the transmission was stopped but you got a bonding time :)
"Meet you at the 100th anniversary then!"
In 12D, with 3D glasses for all!
