Just for fun - who wears it better? ;)

Just some quick fun ;)
Can you settle the fight for these guys? What's your opinion?

I am not the biggest of Sherlock fans, but I would say his is the best coat. I prefer the length and that it has a bit more shape to it.

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2016-04-09 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sadly that was not translated well for my Sherlock 1:6 scale figure. On the prototypes the coat looked awesome, more waisted, but what we got is not as good. It is hard though in this scale, also the material feels too thick.

All cool characters wear coats! :) I can't possibly choose one.

I love Sherlock's coat. I like the texture and it looks like it's warm, I could wear it on daily basis and it wouldn't feel like cosplay. It looks very good on Sherlock, with the collar up and the read lining bringing some new colour to his outfits.

Jack's coat looks heavy... It fits him but I can feel it's a costume and it's meant to look good in camera. I don't think you run comfortably in it :)

The Doctor's coat always makes me think about David Tennant's first words after he's been offered the role: Can I have a really long coat? This coat is so his. I don't think many people would pull it off, you have to be tall and skinny to look good in it.
Sometimes it looks weird when he wears the coat and his companion has much less layers. The most extreme case is Tooth and Claw when the Doctor wears a t-shirt, a shirt, a collar shirt, jacket and the coat, while "the naked child" Rose has only a t-shirt and an overall miniskirt. They had a long walk outside so either she was cold or he was hot. Someone didn't think it through.

I really didn't mean to make people choose, I just needed a reason to set up this picture ;)

Personally, I wouldn't realize what people wear if it wasn't for fans writing online. Seriously. Took me a long while to realize that there is a brown and a blue suit. I just don't pay attention. I would make a very bad witness for the police. It's just not important to me.

That being said, I clearly remember for the first time seeing the moment in "Utopia" where Jack and the Doctor run along the corridor with both their coats flowing behind them. One of thes WOW moments.

David also wears a lot of layers privately. It's his style ;) Maybe he feels cold when he is so thin? But yeah, it seemed rather windy in that scene, so I guess it must have been cold also. Typical British weather. But they neede her to be naked otherwise the script would have not worked.

I know they shortened the coats so they could run better in them, for both David and John I think. I'm looking forward to the Jack coat in my Big Chief Jack. Sadly the Sherlock coat looked better in the prototype picture than what we got in the end. It was more taylored. Now it looks a bit stiff but it is very hard to find the right material in that scale. It feels too thick.

That's a relief ;)

Running in a perfect sync, it was amazing. Very energetic scene.
I remember John and David saying they used to compete about who runs faster :)

Skinny people look good wearing layers, I wonder if it's something he started to do when he was a teenager and now he does it without realising it.

But they neede her to be naked otherwise the script would have not worked.
Sure. But he could have given her his coat during the walk, it seems like a natural thing to do. He gave Donna his jacket when it was Christmas and she had a wedding dress without sleeves.
It's details, I know, but those things help you believe the situation is real.

I know they shortened the coats so they could run better in them, for both David and John I think.
I know they made two versions for David because they couldn't decide how long it was supposed to be but I don't know if he used the shorter version. I know what I'll be looking at next time I'd watch some Doctor Who episodes :)

That's a relief ;)

Seriously, I totally expected everyone to say "Can't choose, all three are great" and was surprised everyone answered so seriously ;) I had even decided against making it a poll for this very reason.

It's details, I know, but those things help you believe the situation is real.

I know what you mean. It's something that bothers me in the original Star Trek with Kirk and Spock. No matter which planet they go on, they always are in their yellow and blue "pyjama" shirts ;) Surely some planets must be colder and others hotter?

Yeah, I think they tried to run in the long coats but were tripping so they had to be made shorter for the running scenes. Something worth checking out indeed. Maybe fodder for one of your next analyzing posts? ;)

Never underestimate fans ;) We can be so serious about choosing our favourite episodes, like it was a matter of life and death ;)

Yes, that can be distracting. And always wearing the same clothes. It's easier for continuity and I know, uniforms and all that, but I prefer when costumes change.

Something worth checking out indeed. Maybe fodder for one of your next analyzing posts? ;)

If I find something, I'll let you know ;)

I think Jack's my favorite, not just because he's my favorite out of those three, but when I think Jack inevitably I think of that coat. It definitely feels a part of his character.

I will say Sherlock's coat is the only one of those coats I would actually wear.

Yeah, Jack looks odd without his coat. Something's missing. You realize this when watching CoE, when he is sitting in that warehouse in ordinary clothes.

1. Jacks Mantel - weil er sowohl zum Charakter als auch zu John selbst passt
2. Sherlock - gibt ihm den richtigen Hauch von "mysteriös" und hätte, so zum Drüberstreuen, die perfekte Länge für mich
3. Der Mantel des Doktors

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2016-04-09 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"So zum Drüberstreuen"? Den Ausdruck hab ich ja noch nie gehört! Was bedeutet das?

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2016-04-09 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Total!

I actually like the Doctor's coat, 'cos I prefer brown coats to any other color. And it looks the swishiest. But Sherlock'c coat is also very cool.

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2016-04-17 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Good choice! All these coats are very iconic and flow nicely when they are running. I know that they actually had to shorten the Doctor's one for the running scenes so he would not trip over it ;)

[identity profile] merlynsminion.livejournal.com 2016-04-09 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
You need to do a poll!
Jack!

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2016-04-17 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking about a poll, but I really did not want people having to decide for just one. Saying "I like them all" would be perfectly fine with me!

I can live with Jack though ;)

[identity profile] dancingdragon3.livejournal.com 2016-04-10 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, don't throw things, but here I like Sherlock in his coat best, even though I want to say Ten. But in real life, I would probably say Jack, then Ten.

Hope your weekend's going well. I feel like I haven't spoken to you in a few days, but I've been unwell, and not keeping up with things like I usually do. I'll come back by tomoro when I've not been working all day. :-)

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2016-04-17 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
But I never would throw any things! It's cool, really. And it IS a nice coat.

I never meant it that serious anyway.

Another weekend over already - where does the time go?

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2016-04-10 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's Sherlock by a mile for me.

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2016-04-17 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Great choice!

[identity profile] owensheart.livejournal.com 2016-04-10 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
Haha love this.

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2016-04-16 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[identity profile] colej55.livejournal.com 2016-04-10 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly can't choose. I adore them all on the characters who wore them. They are each signature pieces that helped define each person and I'd recognize the characters by seeing their coats alone. That's pretty special!

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2016-04-13 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly did not want make people choose. I even did not do clicky boxes in a poll because of that. I expected more answers like yours but everyone is taking it so seriously ;) I only needed an excuse for the epic picture. And I totally agree that each of them is special and we love them for the way they are.

We are denied ticky boxes. :(

[identity profile] heather mccrillis (from livejournal.com) 2016-04-11 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Capt. Harkness', because it has had the most fun. I always think of Ten's suit before I think of his coat and Sherlock's wouldn't flap in the wind enough to double as a cape. :/

Re: We are denied ticky boxes. :(

[identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com 2016-04-11 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Great answer! Much better than just ticking a box ;)
I just assumed everyone would say "all three, can't choose" and didn't want them to make choose with a clicky box?
