Just for fun - who wears it better? ;)

Just some quick fun ;)
Can you settle the fight for these guys? What's your opinion?

All cool characters wear coats! :) I can't possibly choose one.

I love Sherlock's coat. I like the texture and it looks like it's warm, I could wear it on daily basis and it wouldn't feel like cosplay. It looks very good on Sherlock, with the collar up and the read lining bringing some new colour to his outfits.

Jack's coat looks heavy... It fits him but I can feel it's a costume and it's meant to look good in camera. I don't think you run comfortably in it :)

The Doctor's coat always makes me think about David Tennant's first words after he's been offered the role: Can I have a really long coat? This coat is so his. I don't think many people would pull it off, you have to be tall and skinny to look good in it.
Sometimes it looks weird when he wears the coat and his companion has much less layers. The most extreme case is Tooth and Claw when the Doctor wears a t-shirt, a shirt, a collar shirt, jacket and the coat, while "the naked child" Rose has only a t-shirt and an overall miniskirt. They had a long walk outside so either she was cold or he was hot. Someone didn't think it through.

I really didn't mean to make people choose, I just needed a reason to set up this picture ;)

Personally, I wouldn't realize what people wear if it wasn't for fans writing online. Seriously. Took me a long while to realize that there is a brown and a blue suit. I just don't pay attention. I would make a very bad witness for the police. It's just not important to me.

That being said, I clearly remember for the first time seeing the moment in "Utopia" where Jack and the Doctor run along the corridor with both their coats flowing behind them. One of thes WOW moments.

David also wears a lot of layers privately. It's his style ;) Maybe he feels cold when he is so thin? But yeah, it seemed rather windy in that scene, so I guess it must have been cold also. Typical British weather. But they neede her to be naked otherwise the script would have not worked.

I know they shortened the coats so they could run better in them, for both David and John I think. I'm looking forward to the Jack coat in my Big Chief Jack. Sadly the Sherlock coat looked better in the prototype picture than what we got in the end. It was more taylored. Now it looks a bit stiff but it is very hard to find the right material in that scale. It feels too thick.

That's a relief ;)

Running in a perfect sync, it was amazing. Very energetic scene.
I remember John and David saying they used to compete about who runs faster :)

Skinny people look good wearing layers, I wonder if it's something he started to do when he was a teenager and now he does it without realising it.

Sure. But he could have given her his coat during the walk, it seems like a natural thing to do. He gave Donna his jacket when it was Christmas and she had a wedding dress without sleeves.
It's details, I know, but those things help you believe the situation is real.

I know they made two versions for David because they couldn't decide how long it was supposed to be but I don't know if he used the shorter version. I know what I'll be looking at next time I'd watch some Doctor Who episodes :)

Seriously, I totally expected everyone to say "Can't choose, all three are great" and was surprised everyone answered so seriously ;) I had even decided against making it a poll for this very reason.

I know what you mean. It's something that bothers me in the original Star Trek with Kirk and Spock. No matter which planet they go on, they always are in their yellow and blue "pyjama" shirts ;) Surely some planets must be colder and others hotter?

Yeah, I think they tried to run in the long coats but were tripping so they had to be made shorter for the running scenes. Something worth checking out indeed. Maybe fodder for one of your next analyzing posts? ;)

Never underestimate fans ;) We can be so serious about choosing our favourite episodes, like it was a matter of life and death ;)

Yes, that can be distracting. And always wearing the same clothes. It's easier for continuity and I know, uniforms and all that, but I prefer when costumes change.

If I find something, I'll let you know ;)
