Yes, it's on Amazon, there are also DVDs from the first season, and it is on Hulu. In fact, season 3 will only be on Hulu, not on Fox any longer. But we will have to wait till next year for it. Plenty of time for you to catch up, as they are only short seasons anyway. Start now! That's an order! LOL
I only have seen TOS from all the Star Trek shows so far. Fans of The Orville are commenting all the time how much it is like TNG. The lighting, the camera angles, the stories. I guess I'll have to watch that one day to compare myself. So if you love that, you definitely should love the Orville. And actually it does remind me a lot of Stargate! The way how I love every single character, and their relationships. It's really a proper team show. Often with shows I have my favorite and others I don't like, but here I really love them all.
If you had asked me last year who my favorite was I honestly couldn't have given you an answer. But I have finally settled on Seth/Ed/The Captain now. I am always going for the leader, be it Jack O'Neill or James T. Kirk ;)
They are so relatable, normal people with normal problems, just on a spaceship. And like Stargate they do good drama, Trek-like with meaningful stories and then some humor inserted as well.
Seth said especially how he was tired of all the dystopian stuff and wanted to do an old fashioned show - one where each episode stands for itself, instead of having a whole arc throughout the season. So technically you could start watching any time and still understand it.
I hadn't even known Seth before. When someone said it's by the Family Guy guy I almost didn't watch. I'm so glad I did. Just give it a fair chance, the first couple of episodes are very heavy on the comedy (we assume that's how Seth sold it to Fox) but soon they found their stride and balanced it well. Season 2 is even better than season 1, it has matured well. But you gotta watch in the right order of course to see the characters grow.
Highly recommended from me! Please let me know what you think, I am running around telling everyone about it. We need more fans. This could become a pretty big thing, if we do it right. A whole new universe to explore. Without the baggage of 50 years of canon, you know? A fresh start.
I want action figures!
And of course I fully fell for Seth once I found out that he likes to sing Frank Sinatra songs with a big orchestra... My all time favorite music. He is born just a few days after me in the same October 1973, it was fate ;)
So my new goal is to see him sing live but he is even busier than JB so who knows when that will happen.
