A while ago a co-worker of my brother asked me if I wanted a figure for free. The hand was broken and I could easily glue it. I have become a sanctuary for unwanted figures now!
I had no idea who this figure was but the more I looked at him the more I realized that I HAVE seen it before. When Richard Dean Anderson was in Ireland and promoted a video game. Funny how life runs in circles sometimes! So, this is the Halo Master Chief. I already did some funny pictures with him here and here

But I always had wanted to do a similar picture like that with Rick. Unfortunately, they don't match in size. So this is for [livejournal.com profile] elrhiarhodan, showing you why probably Jack never can sail in the boat :(

Here's how I cheat:

 photo P4120010.jpg

So I could at least do this pose:

But would have loved this - Jack also sadly can't put his arm sideways, no ballpoint shoulder joint:

For [livejournal.com profile] sgamadison who wanted to see my MacGyver box!

Many years ago a friend visited me and gave me this box. One of the best gifts I ever got!
I guess everyone knows who MacGyver is? If you don't - he is the guy that could stop acid leaks with chocolate or make bombs out of weedkiller. Played by Richard Dean Anderson, absolutely recommended TV series! With computers before there was Windows and huge mobile phones in the Eighties LOL

This entry became too long so I split it into two parts. The second part will be up in a few days (and I also have to finish the Sherlock Holmes museum yet)

My first internet fandom was "Stargate SG-1". I went to many conventions in Germany between 2002 and 2006 and met pretty much anyone from the series, some more than once. But the main guy, Richard Dean "MacGyver" Anderson always said he was too shy of huge crowds and wouldn't do it and that we shall not believe it if he ever gets announced.

Therefore, when GABIT announced a convention to take place in 2006 with RDA and Amanda Tapping, nobody believed it... until Rick himself wrote a piece on his official page. I still at first did not even think this would remotely apply to me - until I took a second look and realized it was not happening in America, but in the UK. Which is only two hours away by flight from Germany. So I asked my brother if he would come with me. It would become my first UK trip. The first of many to follow I may add ;) Thanks to "Torchwood" and "Doctor Who" and John Barrowman and David Tennant but that is another story.

I did not have my LJ yet back then so never posted any pictures. I shall change that now, as promised to [personal profile] aletheiafelinea

When leaving the room, we also got this as a gift from a local artist:

Remember the comparisons I did between naked John Barrowman and William Shatner here? Same pose and all.

Today I watched the classic horror movie "Kingdom of the Spiders". You can watch it here if you like. Again I could not help noticing similarities between my favorite people.

Both William Shatner and John Barrowman in pink:

 photo pink comparison 600 x 229.jpg

And a famous scene from the movie is William Shatner with a tarantula on his face. Richard Dean Anderson did that once as well:

In addition to this comparison pic I just found another one. I rest my case.

William Shatner on the left, Richard Dean Anderson on the right, with a special guest appearance by David Hasselhoff.

When I saw this picture of William Shatner on a recent convention in Las Vegas, I suddenly had a déjà vu. The credit for the left picture by Ferry Teunisse is on the pic, the right picture of Richard Dean Anderson was taken by my friend Paya at Gatecon 2008. Posted with her permission.
What do you think? Two sides of a coin?

The room for the panel with the three Stargate stars Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks was so full, they had to open a second one where the fans would be able to see the panel via video screen. To make up a bit for that, the stars first went there for some pictures and talk.

In the meantime, in the big room some music videos were shown - done by me and my brother. I had sent them in but had no idea whether they actually would make it to the screen, so I was happily surprised. And the audience loved them, laughed several times and cheered at the end. Especially for the "Holzmichel".

I have been told now that the three stars did see a bit of this video as well, without sound, just the subtitles, and were very puzzled about what was going on. Too bad I had no idea about this; I could have told Amanda at the autograph table. Next time! Maybe I should bring some CDs with me ;) If any of you want to see my videos, please sent me a message and I'll see what I can do! Here are some pictures of my five minutes of fame - this is now the how many time? I lost count ;)

Many thanks to you-know-who-you-are and Mericet for providing me with those pictures! Highly appreciated!

I guess this is mainly of interest for the Stargate fans on my friends list. Anne in the RDA forum has done a very detailed report of all the panels. I just read it and understood a bit more that I did not understand while seeing it live. Poor Rick was not the only one having trouble understanding the questions.

Thursday - Opening Ceremony and Richard Dean Anderson panel

Friday - Stargate trio panel with Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks
That's the panel where people with day tickets had to leave to go to another room where they only could see it via video screen, as the room was overcrowded. To make up for it, Rick, Michael and Amanda went to the other room to talk to them a bit. In the meantime, on the screen my old Stargate music videos were shown - Bruttosozialprodukt, Major Tom (by my brother) and the (in)famous Holzmichel. I was surprised as I had no idea whether they got my mail about them or not.

And apparently Rick in the other room even caught the end of the Holzmichel (without sound), and read along the English subtitles I had put up, and was sad when he "died" and happy when he lived again. I probably am the only person in the whole wide world who actually rather had been in the small room for this. What an honor!

Saturday - Amanda Tapping panel

Sunday - Stargate panel with Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Jay Acovone and Suanne Braun

And finally the reason why I went to Fedcon in the first place. They managed to get three of the original four of SG-1 together on stage, that has never ever happened before at any convention. You can imagine the lines but we still went through quite smoothly after one hour wait.

The three of them together on stage were hilarious. While Amanda at least tried to seriously answer some questions, Michael was just laughing all the time about Rick's antics, and Rick's mostly used word was: "What?!?"

Here is a great illustration of that: Amanda and Michael facepalming, and Rick looking innocent:

Also, here you can see a really funny Fedcon video, with all sorts of fans in costumes, doing the "500 miles" song:

I have just been told that on Saturday, at Fedcon, where some of my old funny Stargate videos were played at the big screen while we were waiting for the panel of the three SG-1 members Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks, they have seen and commented on them in the other room (there was a screening to a second room because so many wanted to see the panel). How cool is that? Now I wish I had been in the other room!

If anyone wants to see them, they are in German but do have English subtitles and I am happy to share via PM if you promise not to upload them anywhere. We might want to wait a few days as the traffic is high at the moment, lots of people have contacted me about them. It was great to sit there and hear their laughter, many apparently didn't know them before (I feel old, with one I have even won a video contest at a convention years ago)

Now, before I became a John Barrowman fan, I also was a Richard Dean Anderson fan. It has occured to me for a while now how much alike those two are. This is the first part of a picspam which otherwise would be way too long. So I concentrate on the looks today (did you know that for both their favorite color is orange?), but further installments will also have both of their love for dogs, certain sports like diving, driving fast cars, golfing and skiing, and talents like singing. The more I think about it, the more I come up with. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you - JB & RDA, the double!

They both were born in a rather cold place, RDA in Minnesota, JB in Scotland. And they had the charm down right at the beginning:

Click the cut for all the nice pictures, you know you want to! )

They look good in a kilt:

 photo kilt-JB-1.png photo kilt-RDA-1.jpg

PS: I have no idea why Rick is wearing a kilt in this picture. The Andersons are from Scandinavian heritage with a bit Native American thrown in for good measure, but where does the kilt come from? Does anyone know? Sharp? Cole?
