Thank you! It's nice that you like it even though not having watched the show. I had a good beta also, letting me see things straight.

Their relationship status is - complicated. Same like Jack and Sam in Stargate, or Ed and Kelly in Orville. You are not supposed to have a relationship with your second in command. Period.

Thing is, Voyager got stranded at the other side of the universe and getting home will take them 70 years. So that leaves the captain out of options, unless an alien comes her way. I'm not through myself yet, I hear in later seasons she also has a relationship with a hologram in the holodeck.

Plus, she was actually engaged at home to someone at home but has now after four years learnt that he did not wait and married someone else. So theoretically she would be free for Chakotay.

There is a lot of subtext in the episodes. The actors always stand very close, in each other's space, looking at each other, and she is touching him a lot - at the chest, at the arm. She often touches all her crew though.

There was a special episode coming right before the one I wrote about. They had caught a virus and were left behind on a planet with Voyager travelling along without them. So they lived there like Robinson and his wife, and if ever something happened, it happened there.

You can watch this little clip where he confesses his feelings but it is made into an old Indian tale:

It was nice to see her so relaxed for once - not in captain mood.
After watching this episode, I looked for fic, and there are LOTS of fanfic about it.

But once they got cured, and were back on Voyager, it was back to the old captain - commander thing. She can't afford to get distracted, she needs to concentrate on her job.

Also I hear that Kate Mulgrey, the actress, did not want her (first female Star Trek) captain to be shown as weak and emotional so she was against it. Robert Beltran on the other hand was very much in favor of the relationship.

There is also an episode where a kiss was written and filmed and even shown in a trailer but cut out of the aired episode so in canon it never happened.

In the last episode of the series they pair off Chakotay with someone else who he had not much chemistry before, it comes as a total surprise and people are so angry about this all, the shippers got teased with Chakotay and Kathryn dinner scenes etc. so they were hoping till the end.

I think this is one of the reasons why the fandom is still going strong depite the series ending in 2001. There are new fic written to this day, by old and new fans. It is pretty amazing!

I have written 5 more since this one. One per week. I am wondering about myself. Not sure how much sense they would make to you but I will post them.
