This entry is especially for [livejournal.com profile] fueschgast who recently was in Edinburgh as well and apparently had much better weather than I did!

When we were in Glasgow back in January for the Pantomime with John Barrowman we had planned a day trip to Edinburgh. Unfortunately it was the day with the worst storm and rain you can imagine. Lots of areas in the UK dealt with flooding at the time, it was really bad.

So here are some pictures of a very grey Edinburgh.

After we had walked up the steep hill to the castle, it was announced that it was closed for the day. The storm was so heavy, that they feared people would get blown over the railing. That's how bad it was. You could barely walk.

And there was a man standing in his kilt playing the bagpipes. In the rain.

My umbrella didn't survive the harsh conditions. I left it in Scotland.

I also saw people in rain coats which they clearly had bought in the tourist information or something, as they had the writing "Scotland" on them. Yeah. Says it all ;)

Another poor umbrella that didn't make it:

So we went into the National Gallery. We did not take any pictures inside but I saw people taking some freely, apparently it is not forbidden?

I loved the paintings and the art but let's be honest, the best thing about this building was that it was dry and storm-free ;)

Later I regretted we didn't, as I remembered that this is exactly where John Barrowman and his sister Carole had sat, looking for new paintings to use in their "Hollow Earth" book series, which I can highly recommend by the way.

Oh wow, that looks like a LOT of rain *_* It rained when I was there too (shockingly! ^_~) but definitely not bad enough to close the castle! Glad you still got out and about anyway though... ;)

I don't mind a bit of rain, but this was really heavy weather. But yeah, what are you gonna do at vacation, stay at home? Not gonna happen!

I got reminded to post these when a friend started posting pictures of her recent Edinburgh vacation. Now that I know what it is supposed to look like, I want to go back! It's a really beautiful city.

Have you thought about joining me in Cardiff next year for the John Barrowman concert?

Yeah, I know what you mean - rain can be fine in small doses, but... This seems a bit extreme!

I would love to go back to Edinburgh, too... I was only there around 2 days, and I saw a lot, but I'm sure I missed a lot, too!

And gaah, yes, I have thought about it, and would LOVE to, but... I sort of doubt that I can see it in my future. We're going to Japan over Christmas/New Years this year, which means that between that, and a couple of days I need to take off for a wedding, and another trip, I would probably only have around 3 vacation days to spare. And that's technically long enough to plan a trip, but not the ideal amount of time, and would then probably make another trip my husband is interested in doing not possible, so... Yeah. TMI, probably, but that's the situation. If it wasn't so far, then I'd be there in a heartbeat! :/ And I do appreciate you nudging/encouraging me about it. ;)

I understand. It is a long travel for you after all.
Have you read how John did it for the MBE ceremony? He, his parents and Scott flew into the UK on Sunday, went to a muscial on Monday, went to Buckingham palace on Tuesday and on Wednesday they already flew back to America. Oh my. Guess you cannot get jetleg if you don't stay long enough in one place LOL

What about operation convention then? Is that a go? I hope it is!

I did see that! It looks like it was a really special experience for them~ <3 And yeah, I keep seeing his posts - I can't imagine that kind of crazy travel schedule! I can barely manage a couple of trips a year without getting totally stressed out, lol XD;

And no, convention is not happening, in the end. >_< My husband had to travel a lot this month for unexpected family stuff, and just got back, and neither of us has any time to take off work, so it would have been a really rushed weekend - driving down late tomorrow, and then spending most of Sunday driving back, with one day there? So... We decided against it. *sigh* (I'm sure at this point you're probably doubting my resolve to go to these things, lol but really, I want to~ It just seems to be not working out lately XD;;)

So yeah, quiet Halloween weekend at home instead...

Oh, is it this weekend already? How come we haven't heard a thing yet? Usually John posts pictures of himself flying - well, maybe he is driving this time - but I also haven't seen any posts from the convention people? Not that I am actively looking but usually someone reposts them and shares in the FB group.

I'm sorry to hear it did not work out for you, maybe another time. If I have learnt anything, that there is always another time.

PS: I'll soon post my first White Collar fic ;)
