I'm famous - again

Good that I made a tag for that to collect it all ;)
Today I posted my Thanksgiving pictures to my Tumblr account. When I left work in the evening it had 27 notes.
I went to a concert and when I returned a few hours later I found 582 notes and it is still rising by the minute.624 631 655 669 right now. Just for comparison - the post with the most notes (which means likes or reblogs) had been so far the one with the selfmade 3D chess for the Star Trek figures which had 276 notes but that took several days if not weeks. Usually it is far, far less, sometimes only around 10.
So how come it had climbed that quickly in just a few hours? The reason is I got reblogged from THE official Doctor Who page. And from there it snowballed with more people reblogging and therefore more seeing it. Got a few new followers out of it as well (although I get a new one almost every day, 449 at the moment).
Here is my post at the Doctor Who page:

What an honor!
Seems opening a Tumblr account was the right decision then ;)

Date: 2015-11-27 09:28 pm (UTC)Conrats and et cetera :) I dodn't know Doctor Who had the official tumblr account. I love the tags they add to the posts. #just a casual dalek encounter#was the dalek nice at least?#or did it try to exterminate you?#because that's just rude it's hillarious!

Date: 2015-12-01 06:15 pm (UTC)Newest number: 948. Still climbing, albeit slower. Wonder if I will hit the 1.000. I'll make a celebrations post then.
The way I see it, I could raise my own count by liking every single one of those re-blogs, but that would be silly ;)
Thank you! I didn't know about it either! I went down my list and realized that everyone was reblogging from someone named Doctor Who, and then I checked it and it was the real deal. These tags are hilarious. I must do something with a Dalek then to get them ;)

Date: 2015-11-28 09:06 pm (UTC)You're amazing at this, making it look easy when I'm sure that it's not. Lots of tweaking and fussing required, I would imagine. And your skill as a photographer, getting just the right angles and lighting. You definitely deserve the notoriety and accolades.
Bravo!!!

Date: 2015-11-28 09:45 pm (UTC)And my new Star Trek story from yesterday got some love as well.
Thank you! This one was a rather quick shot, I was eager to get the idea out but it was late in the evening and so I did not dress up a complete set like in the story with the cat - this one: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/159466.html
So the longest I took was making the black sling from some cloth, and finding some red cloth to use as blanket (to cover up his black belly) and getting McCoy holding his pad (needed some Blu Tack which I got in the UK, it's some sort of kneadable sticky putty which is removable).
As for photographing, you are right, I have certainly learnt a thing or two in the years that I am doing this. Knowing that here speech bubbles would be required, I photographed it with the right space in mind. Nothing is worse than trying to fit a bubble without hiding important things!
Also I lightened with a special lamp my brother once gave me - the first picture done with ordinary flash were too white washed, it's not nice when the faces are as white as the wall. So I had to hold the light with one hand, and photograph with the other ;) I could have waited for the next day and daylight of course. Photographing with flash always gives bad shadows.
And in general, the blocking - if there are several figures, it looks odd when one is hidden behind others, so I try to get all faces into the frame - something you can learn from watching TV series, the actors always stand in a way so that you can see them all. Once I started noticing that, it helped a lot.
In any case, it's great fun and wonderful to see the reactions, and getting recognition like that.
