AFT Star Trek: Dancing

Remember the Star Trek episode "Requiem for Methuselah"? Spock was playing a waltz at the piano, and Kirk and Rayna were dancing. I don't have a Rayna but just let Kirk dance with other women. With whom does he have the best chemistry?

Date: 2016-07-19 03:25 pm (UTC)I read an article once, looking at all the times Kirk has kissed a woman in the series, and it turned out, that many of them were to actually distract / fight them. It was only a few times where he really had fallen in love. Like with all myths, we probably make it bigger than it is.
Like I was surprised to find that his shirt ripped only 3 times in 78 episodes! I would have sworn it was more often.
Edit: I like very much the fourth "Star Trek Continues" episode, called "The White Iris". In it, Kirk suddenly is reminded of all the lost loves and women that died because of him, and feels regret and has to deal with feeling responsible. A really emotional episode and I like it very much.

Sadly the small figures are rather stiff and limited in their joint range, when it comes to hugs etc. Some figures at least have a ballpoint joint at the shoulders, which gives some more range but Teyla and the Wraith Queen don't. They can only put out their arm straight ahead. I didn't want them to get too close either, as it then would have looked like kissing.

Date: 2016-07-16 08:21 am (UTC)Maybe you want to jump ahead in your STC watching to episode 4 - "The White Iris". It's the first episode I watched and I loved it. In it, Kirk deals with the loss of three women for whose death he feels responsible and it suddenly all comes back to him. Women we have seen in TOS before, so it is a contiunation.

Date: 2016-07-12 04:03 pm (UTC)Well, since Spock is busy, and Uhuru will be dancing with me, I think Kirk would like Teyla best of all, just because she looks more fun/physical.
This is awesome BTW! I imagine it takes a long time to get the figures standing up like that. Or are they using each other for support?
I never watched Stargate, but that Wraith Queen looks like an interesting character.

Date: 2016-07-16 08:07 am (UTC)You mean besides Spock? LOL.
LOL! And you are not the only one saying that! Sometimes, I am thick ;) I really regret now not taking a Kirk/Spock picture. As I have found out, Uhura played the piano once as well. I had forgotten about that. I've only seen most of the episodes once so far, and it was binge watching.
I don't do too many slashy pictures I must admit, and certainly not anything that is not canon. So you will probably only see Jack/Ianto pictures from me. And Jack/Daniel (Stargate) once in a while, but that is only because these are the only 1:6 figures I have there so I am limited. And I mostly stage it so that it can be seen as friendship if one wants to. Just two guys hanging out together. So nothing too explicit ;) These Valentine's Day pictures are the only exception: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/128258.html
Also, with the new movies and Spock being pre-occupied with Uhura ;), I must admit I am more in the Kirk/McCoy camp there and have read quite a few fanfics with that pair.
Last year after I had gotten my very first Kirk and Spock figure, I did indeed one of my rare slashy pictures. You can find it in this entry: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/139911.html

You picked that right, she is a warrior! She comes with two fighting sticks and she is not afraid to use them. One day I am customizing a Kirk in the red excercising pants LOL Then she can spar with him!

I did struggle indeed! The joints are very limiting. Hugs with these figures look always awqward for example. I had planned one more picture with the green Orion slave girl, but I just couldn't make her fit with Kirk and finally gave up. Her arms/legs are in too weird a pose and not even leaning on Kirk helped. Most of the others are standing by themselves though. But when possible, I put the hands into each other for better hold as they would draw too afar otherwise and not looking intimate. Yet I did not want them to be too close either, as that would look like kissing. I only wanted dancing. Just a bit of fun. Kirk isn't that slut everyone makes him to be, you know!
Please read on in part 2/2

The Wraith are a nasty species. Space vampires. As soon as they touch you, they suck out all your life, leaving an empty shrivelled aged hull. You really would not want that LOL Robert Patrick died the first famous death in the Atlantis pilot.
When these were announced, I actually did not want to watch the series at all, as I found them creepy. I only watched it because they took a beloved character from Stargate SG-1 and put it into Atlantis. I highly can recommend SG-1! I loved that series. It has a few odd episodes in the first season but once they find their feet it is really really awesome. I only wanted to check out what Richard Dean "MacGyver" Anderson was doing these days, I had not expected to fall in love with it. I wasn't even a sci-fi fan at the time! Great characters, great actors, great team and relationships. You feel that they care for each other.
Good drama episodes that raise questions - when I watched TOS last year, I was reminded of SG-1 a lot! The story telling is similar. Often we have two different opinions - Jack is the shoot first, ask questions later guy, and Daniel is the civilian archeologist, saying aliens are people too, but sometimes is too naive and trusting when he should be more wary. And to see those two figure out how to solve a problem, when you actually agree wit both opinions in their way, is always interesting. For example, the TOS episode with the Horta? I could see that totally as a Stargate episode as well. Where the monster in the end is not a monster at all. We had something similar with the Unas. Daniel made friends with them and even learnt their language.
Also if you like Doctor Who and Torchwood, you certainly will like SG-1. A lot of the people I know are fans of both. The humor is similar. Jack O'Neill's one-liners are very famous. Reading SG-1 fanfics is how I learnt English - if I sound like a snarky US colonel once in a while, you know why ;) "Ya think?" Or "Crap" or "Piece of cake" or "shrink" are words I learnt from Jack. I can't believe that I tried to look up "Yeahsureyabetcha" or "D'oh" in the dictionary LOL (also, Jack is a Simpsons fan and often makes references to that and also the Wizard of Oz. He even wanted to name a spaceship "Enterprise" and once when they had travelled in time back to the year 1969 said that his name was James T. Kirk - another idea I have for a scene here)
Also a great main woman character with Sam Carter. She's a soldier and a scientist and very good in both jobs. She has to do all the technobabble and get them out of dangerous situations by inventing/repairing one last thing. And she is very likeable. In the pilot, she has a very bitchy line but then Amanda Tapping (the actress) went to the writers and said just because she is a woman she does not have to be a bitch, you know? Why can't she just be a normal person, doing her job and be nice? When they re-released the pilot a few years later with better special effects and different scenes, that line was gone.
If you have some time, you really may want to check it out one day! Hope I sold it well ;)

Date: 2016-07-15 09:21 pm (UTC)I know you said waltz but it looks more like a tango to me!
Do you know that TOS episode? The methuselah guy referenced, turned out it was an alien that had lived for several 100 years, and he was a lot of famous people on Earth. He was Brahms among others and the waltz was an original hand written but unknown one, that's how they found out what was up with the guy. Here's the original scene if you like, just a few minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xivpMVtOUeM
I wasn't online when doing the pictures and I couldn't remember where the hands are supposed to go, so I actually looked into my Lexikon under "Walzer" LOL

Date: 2016-07-16 03:22 pm (UTC)...maybe it wasn't a good choice, then ;)

It reminds me of a fanfiction where Clara finds out the Doctor was Casanova (as Ten). He said Casanova suddenly disappeared from history one day so the Doctor impersonated him to keep the history intact. A little funny crossover ;)

That's what I call a proper research! I hope they did it too, for the episode, and got the moves right.

Date: 2016-07-19 03:00 pm (UTC)When I gave you the link with the scene, I watched the video as well and did indeed pay attention to William Shatners feet. They cannot often be seen, but at least it looks like 3/4 cadence to me ;) There was not really much space to waltz her properly around in the set, I guess. Not like at the opera ball in Vienna. But I'm sure he knows how to do it. Surely dancing is in the education of an actor.

I'm sure they have to learn about movements in general but I don't know if they learn some specific dance... David Tennant's first rehersals for "The Family of Blood" where he dances with Joan weren't good (thanks for the Confidential for filming it :D) so I guess some of them just take some lessons when they get a job.

Date: 2016-08-07 08:09 pm (UTC)Right, that's what John is always saying, that he loved learning new skills for a job. I mean, you get basically payed for having fun and learning something new you can later use again. Riding, fighting, fencing...

Date: 2016-08-14 04:00 pm (UTC)They often travel ;) While I do love to travel once in a while, if I imagine all the flying John is doing every week, it must be exhausting. Always packing your suitcase, living in hotel room... it can get boring after a while. I sometimes hear actresses say how much they love being at home doing mundane things like cooking for themselves or cleaning.
