And one bonus picture from my little Germany trip. I couldn’t fit my figures in there but want to show it anyway as it's too cute. Meet Tuffi, the circus elephant who rode the Wuppertal suspension railway in 1950. Only she didn’t like it and jumped through the window into the river. She was not hurt thankfully.
The "real" picture is a photo montage long before photoshop was invented. There were reporters present for this ride, but they were not quick enough to take a picture.

Date: 2016-10-21 10:30 am (UTC)Yeah, that plush elephant is so cute! We turned the corner and I laughed out loud when I saw the display. This is a pretty famous story for this suspension railway and well known.
In Dresden, we have trams driving on rails on the street. Apparently when they wanted to do something similar in Wuppertal, the only free space they could find was the river. I actually want to visit there and ride it, I've never been there.

Date: 2016-10-31 06:12 pm (UTC)It was meant to be an advertising for the circus. It was the idea of the circus director and they even got an official permit for it. There was a trial afterwards where they had to pay a fine.
The plate says she jumped ten meters into the deep and the water was only 50 centimeters deep!
But yeah, the plushie is really cute, and I recognized immediately what story it was, without reading the plate. The elephant in the suspension railway is pretty famous.

It's amazing what can be done with photography then and now...

Yes! I read an article recently about how photographers shopped pictures already back then, for example a family picture of two brothers but the pictures were taken at different times. You could see the background not quite matching.
