And one bonus picture from my little Germany trip. I couldn’t fit my figures in there but want to show it anyway as it's too cute. Meet Tuffi, the circus elephant who rode the Wuppertal suspension railway in 1950. Only she didn’t like it and jumped through the window into the river. She was not hurt thankfully.

The "real" picture is a photo montage long before photoshop was invented. There were reporters present for this ride, but they were not quick enough to take a picture.

Oh! Poor Tuffi! I'm glad you mentioned that the "real" photo was a manipulation, because I was about to get worried (I saw the photo before actually reading the post). I do like the tribute setup, though.

But the story is real. Just the picture isn't. There were reporters present for this ride, but they were not quick enough to take a picture. Hence the manipulation.

Yeah, that plush elephant is so cute! We turned the corner and I laughed out loud when I saw the display. This is a pretty famous story for this suspension railway and well known.

In Dresden, we have trams driving on rails on the street. Apparently when they wanted to do something similar in Wuppertal, the only free space they could find was the river. I actually want to visit there and ride it, I've never been there.

It's actually pretty amazing what they used to be able to do in photos and movies before computers!

I'm glad it wasn't real though >.<

But yes, I agree, it is impressive indeed! When watching the TOS episodes, I often was amazed what they were able to do (duplicating Kirk for example). Only if you knew what to look for you could see it.

I'm glad the elephant wasn't hurt. Why was it even there? The plush Tuffi is cute, though ;)

Only a few minor scratches thankfully.
It was meant to be an advertising for the circus. It was the idea of the circus director and they even got an official permit for it. There was a trial afterwards where they had to pay a fine.

The plate says she jumped ten meters into the deep and the water was only 50 centimeters deep!

But yeah, the plushie is really cute, and I recognized immediately what story it was, without reading the plate. The elephant in the suspension railway is pretty famous.

Thankfully no elephants were hurt in the making of this photo \o/.

Was it really that high up that she jumped from as the B+S manip photo suggests? Glad to know the real elephant wasn't hurt!

It's amazing what can be done with photography then and now...

I guess it must be right with the height, yeah. I've never been there so I can't say. I should really do more city trips over a weekend in Germany, we have so many nice interesting cities.

The sign said it had a few scratches only.

Yes! I read an article recently about how photographers shopped pictures already back then, for example a family picture of two brothers but the pictures were taken at different times. You could see the background not quite matching.
