Introductions: The Baker Street Door has arrived!

For alumfelga, fueschgast and jackwabbit and everyone that is a Sherlock fan - today I got the Baker Street door and it's awesome! So many great details. Check them out under the cut!



Remember how I carried the TARDIS home in my huge suitcase? This time I was even able to close it! The box had the same length but was a little bit thinner.



Still it was a tight fit from top to bottom!

Once I got off one half of the styrofoam it looked like this:



It comes with a Sherlock head variant with deerstalker. Since it is so complicated to switch out heads I intent to sell this and get some money back. Even though the new head is painted much more nicely and realistically. But Sherlock only wore it once, very shortly, I don't really consider it "his". Plus I think the Victorian version will come with one that can be taken off (this one is sculpted) and so I could put this onto him if I like to?

And the letter box even opens! I hadn't expected that. The door does not open, they didn't want to put interiour behind it.

O_O I had no idea that there's a rod missing in the fence!

I only just noticed how that window in the door looks like Sailor Moon's first brooch with bat wings.

I feel better now about not knowing about the rod, if even you, clearly a fan, doesn't know it! I'm only a casual watcher ;) I read a review of the door long time ago where this was mentioned. Otherwise I probably would have gotten a heart attack yesterday!

Yes, I do. I wondered that too, but I guess they could repair it, as long as it's not there in any flashbacks.

I know! But I don't read a lot of fic recently. I am a bit famdomed-out it seems. I am actually reading real books, how's that for a change? There was a time, back at Stargate fandom, where I didn't read any books for years as no other characters than SG-1 could hold my interest. Well, aside of the Stargate novels, that is.

And with Sherlock specifically, I only seem to read fanfics in the short frame after a new season has aired.

Which is a long winded way to say that I haven't read any of your recent works, sorry!

Having sat on those steps to stroke Prince the Gower Street cat, and hauled the door shut a couple of times when I have been inside, I can feel how authentic that looks. When I get round to writing the book on location hunting/visiting I should be very interested to interview you about your take on it; talking about the minature version of it would give an interesting slant!

Yes, I also am blown away! I'm so happy I got it despite me being a bit worried where to store the door and the TARDIS as both are huge.

It looks amazing, with the letter box, the door-knocker, the bells and... without the knob? I just checked with "The Study in Pink" and apparently there isn't a knob in the door. Weird. That's why John always uses the knocker...

I really love it! I am glad I got it. I even found a place where to store it. I hope they won't do any more backgrounds though, nor QMX do any Star Trek consoles. Imagine having a TARDIS console at this size? I would probably not be able to resist but then I need to win the lottery and buy a house.

I only know about the broken fence because long time ago I read a first review about this door where it was pointed out. Otherwise I really would have gotten a heart attack. Imagine me complaining to Big Chief LOL

I do learn a lot about the shows I watch from studying the figures and their accessories closely and paying more attention the next time. There's often so much going on with dialogue that you don't pay attention to the background.

I'll also need to do a re-watch of the Ninth Doctor season, I have forgotten so much and soon I'll get him. Maybe you can tell me then what some of his accessories are ;)

I have started to watch "Gotham" now just because I like the figures and their accessories and intend to buy some to use for my other figures. And now I got me hooked on the show. Not totally fallen into the fandom, but it's interesting enough to keep watching. It's really weird when I see actors in real which I already saw as a figure first ;) Same way I came to Torchwood back then. I still remember Tosh being on the screen for the first time and I thought: She looks exactly like the figure!

I'd like to fall into something new as deep as I fell for Doctor Who, but my last attempts weren't succesful. I never know for sure if a series is going to work for me.

What did you try? What kind of series does interest you? Does it need to be sci-fi or can it be something else? I do watch a lot of stuff without considering myself in the fandom. That does not happen from the beginning, sometimes it takes a long time. I like to try out things I got recommended by friends. I wanted to skip "White Collar" but then someone on LJ wrote such an enthusiastic review that I decided to check it out. It was interesting enough, so I kept watching. But it took a long time until I really fell for it. And even though I've read some fanfictions now and even wrote my own I still would not consider myself really in the fandom, not in the knowing-every-detail stage.

When "Six Feet Under" came to German TV I already had read lots about it on the internet so knew it was supposed to be good, and it was. "Queer as Folk" was recommended by a friend. Same for "Desperate Housewives" which I adored. But I also start to watch a lot just because of a certain actor that is involved. "Arrow" for JB, "Almost Human" for Karl Urban, "Stargate" for Richard Dean Anderson etc. I just want to casually check it out and the next moment, Bam, it has hooked me.

I keep hearing good things about "House of Cards" and "Breaking Bad" and one day I may check them out as well if I haven't anything else to watch. Although recommendations isn't everything. I tried "Walking Dead", didn't like it, moved on. I didn't even try "Game of Thrones" as I know it is not for me. I was intrigued by "Lost" even though I had no idea what was going on and was not in the forums doing speculations, I just really liked the characters and actors so kept watching. They drew me in again every week.

Recent TV shows I liked were "11.22.63" (time travel and stuff set in past decades is always interesting) and "The Family" which also someone recommended to me. The first is a mini series with a proper end, the second ended after one season. In general I like shorter British shows now. I probably recommended "The Night Manager" to you before. Or what about "Victoria", with Eve Myles and Jenna Coleman? I am usually not into historic stuff with lots of intrigues, but I really liked this one. Very fresh and interesting storytelling and for someone like me who doesn't know much about Queen Victoria I even learn something from it. She surely didn't have it easy, getting the throne at age 17.

Watching a show where you already know and like the lead actor never can be wrong. Is there anyone you want to follow over to new shores? Aside of David Tennant, I mean?

All I'm saying, just look around and watch stuff for fun, the falling deeply for it may or may not come later. And probably never. If "Doctor Who" was your first, it will be always special, as will "Stargate" be for me. Nothing will ever beat it.

And I hope you still will enjoy my new toys post with all the wonderful things I'm happy to play with, even if you don't know "Gotham". I tried to explain it all properly. I knew enough about the Batman universe to not be totally lost when I started. I know that Gordon is supposed to be the one policeman who is not corrupt. The good guy. Yet in the first episode I saw he killed a man. It was someone they had tried to bring to justice properly, but justice let them down. He surely deserved it but still Gordon should be above such things.

It was the cliffhanger that got me hooked, wanting to know more, what repercussions this might have on him. And I've started at the beginning now, where he is the new fresh hero guy and it will be interesting to see how he ended up being this desperate and dark. It's not so much a superhero show, more a dark noir police drama. Not modern, the visuals are nice. They use cellphones, but old ones and old computers and vintage cars. It's timeless.

What kind of series does interest you?
If I knew, I'd just go and watch it :) I don't have genres I like and don't like. I wouldn't have guessed I'd fall into Doctor Who so deeply, I was never a sci-fi fan. Twillight-inspired series about vampires? Surprisingly good, surprisingly addictive. I don't like seeing the 70s and 80s on screen much, but here I am, watching Life on Mars. I dislike violence and I'm scared of everything, yet I was a fan of Dexter! For me, it's all about three-dimensional characters, character development and a clear statement from the writers. Sometimes it just clicks. I like playing with tropes, like in Galavant, and some funny scenes, even if the whole series is serious.

I can see you like various things, too.

I'm watching "The Crown" now, a series about the Queen Elizabeth II. I was going to end up watching after the first episode that was rather boring, but now I want to watch the whole thing. It's so interesting to see Matt Smith playing someone else than the Doctor. he's doing a pretty good job.

No, Doctor Who wasn't my first fandom. The very first thing I loved was probably Harry Potter, although I didn't know much about fandom back then. Then there was House MD, Pirates of the Caribbean, Sherlock and few more. I like being a fan, it brings so much joy.

I'll look into your new posts as soon as I have time. I never exclude them just because I don't know the fandom. Have fun with Gotham, you had a nice start with Gordon denying what you heard of him.

I saw your post about "The Crown", when I am finished with "Gotham" I'm going to watch that one too. It sounds interesting. And maybe you can watch "Victoria" and then we can talk about both.

I only checked out "Stargate" because I had loved Richard Dean Anderson in "MacGyver" and wanted to check out what he was doing now. Like you, I never had considered myself a sci-fi fan, so it was much to my own surprise that I fell so deeply for it. Then again, it was not like the usual sci-fi, with ships and battles in space. It was about people, and the team and their relationship, and every week a new planet to explore and problems to be solved. And it was not set in the future but our time. Which is why I also loved "Torchwood" so much, it reminded me of it. Ordinary people dealing with alien stuff in secret.

But yeah, it's not about the plot, it's about the actors and the characters.

I just realized that there is one show that I forgot to recommend in my list. It's called "The Americans" and is about Russian spies who live like a normal family with kids (who have no idea what their parents are doing) in the Eighties in America, and have the FBI guy that catches spies as friend and neighbour. I really love this show. It's not just black and white, good and evil there. It's real people with flaws and everything. And a great piece to learn about those times.

Imagine you found out one day that all your life was a lie and that your parents are spies. Great stuff!

That was in 2014, the crazy year. January Panto in Glasgow, February Sherlock Con in Birmingham, March JB CD studio recording visit in London, April Torchwood convention in Birmingham! And I wonder why my bank account is so red...

Originally the Sherlock con was supposed to take place in December. But then it got switched to February and on Twitter a HUGE announcement was announcet for a certain time. That was only six weeks before the date. We all were online and booked immediately after he was announced. It was a Starfury con, by Sean.
