Today I had to stay at home for two different handymen. I used the time to finally put marble paper on the Matrix stairs. The original black stairs did not photograph well. It took so long as I could not decide whether to leave the top or the side of the stairs black.

Seeing it now in the picture I realize I still don't like the black. Maybe I should do the sides with marble as well and then put like a red velvet carpet in the middle.

I used newspaper first to measure and cut the exact shapes. Not sure yet what to do with the wall. I could break off the hooks but the round thing can't be cut off.

There is also a pedestral at the bottom of the railing, at first I wanted to leave that off but then there would have been a hole. So I added marble paper to that as well to hide the holes left behind after I cut the figure from it.

For those interested, this is what the whole set would look like:

Looks like they used a very bright overhead light to film the Matrix scene. However, the marble stairs give you many more lighting options and will show much better in a variety of scenes. I think you made an excellent choice in covering the treads with light marble. Removing the little pedestal was a good choice, too. The revised staircase looks great!

Do you mean on the last picture? That is not from the movie, that is the complete action figure set. It is more a display, you can't really play with it as the figures are stuck in their poses (even though they have limited articulation).

But you are right, with the lighting the stairs look a bit better. I couldn't make it work somehow.

And I put the pedestral back where it belongs, as otherwise there would be a gap at the last step where it slides in (see picture 2).
I only removed the white figure that was standing on the pedestral. Maybe I'll put a vase there or something.

Wow!Suddennly I have realised that you think like a real film director or cameraman here. Of course you have been doing it all the time but this is such a specials case. Great !!!

Yes, indeed! You are so right! If I showed you the first pictures I did with friends - we photographed the figures from way too high. It did not look realistic. You need to photograph them on eye level.

And the second thing, you need to make sure that nobody is hidden. Since then I pay attention to it when watching TV or a movie. Look how a group of actors always is standing in a way so you can see everyone's face. That is really important. It looks odd when someone is blocked. That's something I learnt over the years.
