I'm so excited

I rarely fill out the music field when posting but this one is very fitting today ;)

Two days ago I bought a ticket for the concert tour of John Barrowman in October. In Cardiff, of course. Now I have "fun" trying to actually find a plane over there.

And for those that don't know who John Barrowman is (are there any out there?) I first got to know him as Captain Jack Harkness in "Dr. Who". Later he got his own series, "Torchwood". But prior to that he already had been a big star at the London West End, played the leading role in several musicals, and he also has done a lot of TV shows in the BBC. One where he fulfills wishes of people who want to perform on stage once, and he also searched for new musical stars together with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Just put in the name "John Barrowman" at youtube and you will be bombarded with thousands of links showing his many sides of an entertainer, be it singing, dancing, ice-dancing or playing the flute. I hadn't expected there are still such old fashioned entertainers out there. That's what blew me away. And his great voice, of course.

I like that he always gives 100 percent and more when performing, you can see that he just loves what he is doing and his own dream as a boy came true. On top of that he is a very likeable person with a great personality (and a great laugh). Goodlooking as well, and a lot of women in this world regret he's gay. Oh well, can't have everything ;) He and his partner Scott seem to be made for each other.

It also proves that you can be open about your sexuality and still have a career in the showbusiness. And two days ago he has flown to Los Angeles to guest star in "Desperate Housewives". I'm very excited about that as well and can't wait to see it. Seems John and me are the only ones that do like Bree ;)

Oh, what fun! So he really is gay, huh? And married/taken/partnered. Good for him. For my part, 'taken' means Fantasy Only anyway -- unavailable is unavailable, after all. And fantasy need not worry about actual orientation.

So you do know him? For a long time I wanted to ask, because of your theatre/musical background. You certainly should try youtube if you have not seen or heard much of his singing on stage. Beware, very addictive.

Yes, he's really gay. Scott and him are together since 1993, that is a long time in showbiz I'd say. Scott is an architect and the quiet type (the keel to John's sailboat, as he likes to put it). You can watch a video of the two of them here - so cute!

And of course, actually everybody in showbiz is Fantasy Only, of that I never have a doubt. I guess John works so well with the women since doesn't seem "camp" - he didn't even get the gay part in "Will & Grace" since he apparently was not gay enough.

We're going to sit row K, right in the middle stalls. Not far from the stage I hope. And it's only two days after my birthday, so it's my birthday present for myself this year! If it wasn't for all that organizing flights and hotels stuff... but I bet it's worth the trouble!

And I am definitely going to have a blast. I bet it's thousand times better than the DVD. Which actually let me feel like being there.

And I can give you an introduction into Desperate Housewives, if you want to know who's who and what the mystery he's involved in is. I watched it from the beginning and Wednesday is always the highlight of my week when it's on. It's one of those rare series where after an hour you think, oh, already over? Didn't notice the time slipping by! Sometimes I sit at my couch and laugh my ass off about some of the one liners. Start watching immediately this week, as John is only a few episodes away!

Congrats on the tickets! You'll have a fantastic time! Will you be doing the Cardiff tour you were hoping for? I know there are some websites out there that list locations for Doctor Who/Torchwood, it's just a case of finding them! :)

Oh, I actually wanted to write that recap in German, but I can do an English version as well, of course! Maybe I should put it in my LJ? LOL

Let's find a flight and accommodation first, then we can do the finer details. I'll have to ask my friends, as we will be in a group. But I would not mind a guided location tour, sounds like fun! I already got some books from the library about Wales and what else to do there. So far it's planned to fly on Thursday and fly back on Monday. But there are no direct flights to Cardiff, that's the problem. It's either to Bristol or London and then by train, or with a change of planes in Amsterdam. Either way I'll have to go to Berlin first. So, not as easy as I originally thought!

Good luck with getting to Cardiff. It really is a bit of a nightmare place to access. There's not very good connections to anywhere in Wales!!

I can understand wanting to see the locations for sure! Unfortunately I haven't been there myself, but I know a few people who have (for football related events). They've either had to drive or get a coach there.

Oh, in case you are interested - we are going by train to Berlin, flying from there to Amsterdam (Netherlandsd), changing planes and flying to Cardiff. KLM is the only company flying there directly. All other plans, going by train from either London or Bristol, did not work out.

On the way home we will take all day long because of those stupid trains between Berlin and Dresden. Mind, Berlin is the capital of Germany, and Dresden is the capital of Saxony, so we are not a little village!

WOOT! He's such an engaging and talented entertainer!!! You'll have a blast! I'd love to go to Cardiff, too. It might be a bit of a nightmare combination of planes and trains, but I'm sure you'll find it worth it given that you are such a fan of Torchwood. I have a friend in London whose boyfriend attends medical school in Cardiff and she visits him fairly frequently. You might try getting there from London.

I can't wait to hear all about your trip when you get back. Pictures... lots of pictures, please!

We'll see whether it's better to go by train from London, but my friend says it takes several hours. Bristol is more near, but they only fly late in the evening.

I have yet to find out whether we are allowed to take pictures, but be prepaired for a squeeing report afterwards ;)

Hallo Antje,

ich habe auch Tickets für das Konzert in Cardiff ergattert, allerdings "nur" in Reihe M.
Ich hatte die gleichen Probleme eine Möglichkeit zu finden dort hin zu kommen.
Cardiff musste es ja schon allein wegen Torchwood sein, nicht wahr?
Tja, dann kommt die Sorge: Sind die Tickets auch wirklich an der Abendkasse hinterlegt? Dort wo ich bestellt habe, hies es sie schicken keine Tickets ins Ausland. Also heißt es bis Oktober Daumen drücken.

Und dann die Überlegung... wie komme ich eigentlich hin???
Ich habe mich jetzt für die umständliche Fliegerei mit KLM über Amsterdam entschieden.
KLM fliegt von Frankfurt und Stuttgart (die beiden Flughäfen kamen für mich in Frage) je 3x am Tag nach Amsterdam und von dort auch wieder 3x am Tag weiter nach Cardiff.
Ich hab diese Seite erst heute entdeckt, wahrscheinlich hast Du schon eine Möglichkeit gefunden nach Cardiff zu kommen.

Vielleicht sehen wir uns dort ja? Ich bin von Freitag bis Sonntag vor Ort, man will sich ja auch noch was von der Stadt (bzw. dem Torchwood-Drehort) ansehen.

Ich hoffe, Du siehst meine Antwort hier, Du bist nicht eingeloggt und da bekommst Du auch keine Benachrichtigung von LJ bei einer Antwort.

Ja, wir haben uns nun auch für KLM entschieden. Ist zwar die teuerste, aber auch beste Variante. Wir dachten erst, nach London und dann mit dem Zug oder auch von Bristol, aber die Zeiten sind nicht praktikabel. Entweder ganz früh oder ganz spät.

Wir fliegen am Donnerstag von Berlin und am Montag zurück. Da werden wir also nicht zusammen fliegen, aber vielleicht sehen wir uns ja wirklich. Dann würde allerdings helfen, zu wissen, wie Du aussiehst!

ich hab´mich nun auch hier angemeldet.
Leider kennen wir uns noch nicht, aber ich hab auch ein Foto von mir hochgeladen, damit Du mich schonmal gesehen hast.
Da wir ja wirklich nicht weit voneinander weg sitzen, sehen wir uns auf jeden Fall!
Hast Du Deine Eintrittskarte schon, oder ist das wie bei mir.. von wegen ins Ausland verschicken wir keine Karten, die werden an der Abendkasse hinterlegt? Na ja, wird schon schiefgehen. Bin schon ganz aufgeregt.

Bei wkw schreiben einige es wäre günstiger und stressfreier über London anzureisen, aber ich hab mich ja auch vor der Flugbuchung informiert und ich geh´davon aus, das das schon alles klappt und funktioniert.
Eine genaue Planung was ich wie mache, habe ich sowieso noch nicht aufgestellt.
Im Moment ist nur wichtig, dass ich Karten für das Konzert,ein Hotelzimmer und eine Möglichkeit gefunden habe, nach Cardiff zu kommen. Alles andere ergibt sich.

Ja, ich hab auch eine Mail bekommen, dass wir uns die Karten vor Ort abholen. Hoffentlich geht das glatt. Vergiss Deine Kreditkarte nicht, die brauchen die Nummer, und auch die Buchungsnummer von der Mail.

Also von London nach Dresden geht der Flieger früh um acht, und da weiß ich echt nicht, wie ich um die Zeit hinkommen soll. Aber bei anderen Städten kann das sicher anders sein.

Jetzt bin ich aber doch neugierig: Wie hast Du mich denn eigentlich gefunden? Also den Originalbeitrag, auf den Du geantwortet hast? Vielleicht über den Umweg über die Actionfigurenbilder?

Also wkw ist die Abkürzung von wer-kennt-wen das ist so was ähnliches wie studiVZ. Da kann man dann Gruppen bilden und sich über alles mögliche austauschen.

Und da ich zwecks John wohl immer verrückter werde (hab seine 2 Bücher gelesen - auf englisch, da es wohl kaum eine deutsche Übersetzung geben wird-, hab natürlich die Torchwood-DVDs (bin ein absoluter "Woodie" - wie John die Torchwood-Fans nennt), sehr viele CDs, natürlich die "an evening with"-DVD und ich fliege nach Cardiff um ihn live on stage und natürlich auch Cardiff als Torchwood-Drehort zu sehen....
Na ja lange Rede kurzer Sinn...
ich suche regelmäßig nach Neuigkeiten und bin dabei mit Suchbegriffen wie John Barrowman oder Torchwood über Deinen Beitrag (I´m so excited..." gestolpert...Die Bilder hab ich erst danach gesehen und find sie total witzig. Woher hast Du die Figuren denn? Ich denke in Cardiff in dem Dr. Who "Museum" gibt´s die zu kaufen. Ich muss mich da mal eindecken.
Ich kann´s übrigens kaum erwarten die John-Folgen von Desperate Housewifes zu sehen. Hoffentlich laufen die bald bei uns.

So, nun geht es ja mit großen Schritten auf Cardiff zu, und ich wollte mich noch mal melden. Auf welchem Platz sitzt Du denn genau? Wir sitzen in Block 2 (Mitte) Reihe K, Plätze 29-31. Ich werde mich mal umdrehen und winken!

Heh, das ist ja interessant, wie Du mich gefunden hast. Die Bücher hab ich natürlich auch und sämtliche CDs und DVDs. Guckst Du auch "Doctor Who"? Da spielt Jack ja auch ein paarmal mit. Vor vielen Jahren hatte mir das schon mal eine Freundin gezeigt, aber zum JB Fan bin ich erst geworden, als ich sah, dass er auch singt. Hätte ich schon viel eher haben können und zu Konzerten oder "La Cage aux Folles" fahren können. Naja, besser spät als nie!

Aber mittlerweile haben sie mich auch zum David Tennant Fan gemacht. Ist schon ein toller Schauspieler.

Meine Figuren hab ich alle im Internet gekauft, manchmal gibt es Schnäppchen beim englischen ebay. Aber für den Dr. Who Shop werde ich mich auch mit Geld eindecken! Ich werde meine Figuren auch mit nach Cardiff nehmen und Fotos an original Locations machen! Das haben wir im August mit den Stargate-Figuren in Vancouver gemacht, keine Ahnung, ob Du die Fotos auch gesehen hast. Ich war dort auf einer Convention mit Richard Dean "MacGyver" "O'Neill" Anderson.

Na, dann wünsche ich Dir, dass mit dem Flug alles klar geht, und dass sie auch unsere Karten an der Rezeption herausrücken, sonst hören sie aber von mir! LOL
Vielleicht sehen wir uns ja da auch schon, so viele können da ja nicht sein.

den Block kann ich Dir net sagen, aber wenn ich nach den Sitzen gehe und die mit Deinen Plätzen vergleiche, dann wohl aussen: Reihe M Plätze 11 und 12. Ich hoffe ich seh´ihn trotzdem!

Mit Doctor Who hab ich mich noch nicht so befasst, läuft ja bei uns auch nicht - schade. Aber vielleicht bestell ich mir ja mal die Staffeln mit John (kann man da einfach so einsteigen oder versteht man nichts, wenn man die Anfänge nicht kennt?).

Ich hab die John Recherche leider erst nach seiner letzten Konzerttour gestartet, sonst hätt ich ihn auch schon früher sehen können. Bin schon ganz aufgeregt.

Stargate hab ich auch verschlungen, muss mal Deine Bilder angucken.

Wegen dem Fliegen: Es gibt doch schlimmeres als über Amsterdam zu fliegen. Wird schon schiefgehen.
Wenn die uns die Karten net geben, dann mach ich nen Aufstand.
Also wenn ich´s richtig verstanden hab, dann ab 19:00 an der "Rezeption" - wir sehen uns!
