Karl Urban and "Almost Human" and a famous cabin in Vancouver

So *looks around* Any Karl Urban fans among us? I only knew him as Doctor McCoy in the new Star Trek movies so far, but have started watching "Almost Human" now and love it. I also plan to get "The Loft" from the library next week. That sounds like an interesting movie.
And yes, I know he also was in "Lord of the Rings", and no, I still don't plan to watch it. We'll see how long that lasts...

Today I watched episode 4. They said they were going to a cabin. As soon as they said it I knew there is only one cabin in Vancouver which has been seen in many movies and TV series - here is a screenshot from the episode:

Well, I did watch the Trek movies and Almost Human, heee. He was in LoTR? Where? (lol) :D

He was Eomer, the brother of Miranda Otto's character Eowyn and head of the Riders of Rohan. I think his biggest part is in the second movie, when they come to the rescue at Helm's.

But have you seen the movie "The Loft"? I intend to get the DVD from the library next week. I remember, it was in cinemas not long ago and it looked interesting anyway, but now I have even more reason to watch it. And in English of course, to hear this lovely voice.

I watched it yesterday, finally was able to get the DVD from the library (it was gone all the time). It gets a lot of hate on IMDB but I loved it! Lots of unexpected twists and turns, nothing is like it seems.

Oh ja, hier ist einer!! Hab Karl wie du natürlich in "Star Trek" gesehen (lieb seinen Charakter da) und auch im "Herr der Ringe" (da spielt er den Eomer), und als dann eines Tages einer meiner TV-Sender hier in Österreich mit der Ausstrahlung von "Almost Human" begann, war's in gewisser Weise um mich geschehen.

Ich lieb das Zusammenspiel von Karl und Michael Ealy, die zwei erinnern mich mit ihrem ganzen Banter ein bisschen an Neal und Peter. Und quasi als Sahnehäubchen gabs auch noch einen Charakter namens Sandra ;D Leider waren die 22 Folgen viel zu schnell vorbei, und jetzt hoffe ich, dass entweder endlich die DVD rauskommt oder zumindest dieser Sender die Serie nochmals ausstrahlt.

Wegen der Hütte - ich hab sie ehrlich gesagt nicht erkannt in der Folge, aber es ist zugegebenermaßen auch schon eine kleine Ewigkeit her, seit ich "Stargate" gesehen habe. Muss mir wieder mal die DVD-Boxen zu Gemüte führen. Und ich glaub, wenn man die ganzen Serien und Filme, die in und um Vancouver gedreht werden, findet man viele Gemeinsamkeiten in Sachen Locations.

Hiya! Willkommen im Club!
Ich hoffe, der neue "Star Trek" Film wird ganz viel McCoy haben. Bisher kam er ja doch ein wenig kurz.

Ich hab das Buch von "Into Darkness" gelesen, da wird eine Szene beschrieben, die ich doch gerne gesehen hätte ;) Nachdem er am Arm verletzt wurde von dem Torpedo, sitzt er in der Krankenstation (ohne Hemd) und lässt sich verarzten.

Ich hab es nicht so mit Zauberern und Elfen, daher hab ich mich um "Herr Der Ringe" immer rumgedrückt. Muss ich das wirklich gucken? Ich hab ein Foto gesehen und ihn beinahe nicht erkannt. Wenn die da alle so langhaarig rumlaufen, weiß ich gar nicht, welcher er ist...

Dass er bei "Almost Human" die Hauptrolle spielt, war irgendwie an mir vorbeigegangen. Erst kürzlich hat mir das jemand gesagt und mein Interesse stieg schlagartig auf 100% ;) Ich bin so berechenbar. Und dabei hab ich doch meine Hände genügend voll mit anderen

Nächste Woche will ich mir auch aus der Bibliothek den Film "The Loft" holen. Warst Du da im Kino? Da freu ich mich schon drauf. Der klingt klasse.

Und ja, ich finde auch, dass die beiden an Peter und Neal erinnern! Ich grinse mir immer eins. Hehe, ich glaube, einen Character namens Antje wird es wohl eher nie geben.

Ich hab ja selber einige Plätze in Vancouver besucht, vor allem aus "Stargate" und "MacGyver", und jetzt in "Arrow" entdecke ich auch manches wieder. Erinnerst Du dich, als sie in Washington waren, um vom Präsidenten eine Medaille zu bekommen, und dann wurde der Reporter von einem Auto überfahren? Dieses Gebäude ist in Wahrheit ein Kunstmuseum. Es war nur zwei Blocks von dem Hotel, in dem unsere Convention stattfand, entfernt. Und in "Arrow" ist es ein Gerichtsgebäude.

Und hab ich dir das hier mal gezeigt? Das ist zwar nicht aus Stargate, die Episode mit Oma Desala wurde im Studio gedreht, aber MacGyver war hier mal - und ich auch:

Na, die Szene hätt ich auch gerne gesehen! Bestimmt nicht die einzige, die da quasi unter den Tisch gefallen ist.

"Herr der Ringe" hab ich mir zuerst nur wegen Sean Bean angesehen (der dann ja leider nur im ersten Teil dabei war - sein "Todesfluch" hat da wieder mal zugeschlagen XD), aber dann haben mir alle drei Teile total gut gefallen. Ok, vielleicht bin ich auch leichter für Zauberer und Elben und Zwerge zu begeistern als andere.

Mir ging's da fast gleich so! Als die Serie in den USA anlief, hab ich die paar Berichte dazu samt und sonders ignoriert - ich hatte sowieso zu dem Zeitpunkt ein paar Serien zum Anschauen. Und dann heuer im Frühjahr (glaub ich zumindest jetzt mal) hab ich einen Trailer dafür gesehen, und da ich kurz zuvor erst "Star Trek Into Darkness" gesehen hatte, wollte ich unseren Lieblings-Kiwi mal in einer größeren Rolle sehen (McCoy hat zwar definitiv mehr zu tun als Eomer, aber immer noch ein bisschen weniger als eine "richtige" Hauptrolle)

Weißt du, wann ich das letzte Mal im Kino war? Das war noch vor der Jahrtausendwende! XD Ich bin, ehrlich gesagt, ein bisschen zu faul dazu, da ich doch am Stadtrand wohne, und alleine mag ich dann auch nicht gehen. Außerdem kannst du bei uns hier davon ausgehen, dass in unserem Stadtkino sicher nur ein Drittel oder vielleicht die Hälfte der Filme läuft, die anderswo starten (und oft auch noch mit einiger Verspätung). "MMXXL" zum Beispiel ist an Gmunden vorbeigegangen - ich glaub, wir waren das einzige Kino in ganz Oberösterreich, das den Film nicht gespielt hat. Und ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass "The Loft" auch nicht am Spielplan stand.

Geht mir mit den Locations genauso. Am ehesten hab ich noch den Wiedererkennungswert von "Arrow" zu "Supernatural", aber ab und an denk ich mir: oha, da ist doch auch schon Jack O'Neill vorbeigerannt. XD Schön, wenn die Gebäude, zumindest in Film und Fernsehen, so multi-funktionell sein können.

Übrigens, den Chinese Garden, zum dem du mir den Link geschickt hast, den hab ich sofort als jene Location erkannt, wo das Begräbnis im zweiten "Wolverine"-Film mit Hugh Jackman stattgefunden habe. Und weißt du woran ich es erkannt habe? An Foto Nr. 13. War das in "Arrow" der Platz, wo Team Arrow in der dritten Staffel Malcolm gestellt haben und dann plötzlich taucht Nyssa auf?

Ich weiß nicht, ob das wirklich eine unter den Tisch gefallene Szene war oder ob der Autor einfach hier und da noch was dazu erfunden hat, um es runder zu machen.

Man hat mir auch empfohlen, die Hercules und Xena Episoden mit unserem Lieblings-Kiwi, wie du ihn nennst, zu schauen ;) Da bin ich schon gespannt.

Ich war auch lange nicht im Kino, weil mich der ganze Hollywood-Schmus irgendwie nicht mehr interessierte, aber im Sommer bin ich spontan in Jurassic World gegangen, weil alle drüber redeten. Ich gebe zu, in einer Großstadt ist das leichter.

Aber vielleicht findet sich eine Videothek oder Bibliothek, die den Film hat? Wenn ich ihn gesehen habe, werde ich berichten, ob es sich lohnt.

Hast du auch MacGyver geguckt? Da sieht man noch viel mehr von Vancouver als in Stargate, wo sie es ja immer als andere Welten verkauft haben. Mac ist auch schon in dem Hafen rumgeturnt, den man in Arrow oft sieht.

Genau der! Seit ich mir vor Ort jedes Detail angeschaut habe, erkenne ich das sofort immer und überall wieder.

Den zweiten Wolverine Film hab ich noch nicht gesehen, da hab ich ja was, worauf ich mich freuen kann!

Es soll wohl auch das Queen Mansion dasselbe wie in X-Men sein? Schade, dass wir das nicht mehr sehen, ich liebe solche Häuser.

Heute kam der zweite Wolverine Film im Fernsehen. Ich hab ihn aufgenommen. Da werde ich mal nach der Location schauen ;)

Kennst Du diesen Film mit Karl Urban? "Die unwiderlegbare Wahrheit über Dämonen"? Scheint ein ziemlicher Mist zu sein, aber wenn ich mir dieses Video hier angucke - lots of whumping ;) Da muss ich doch mal Ausschau halten:

I've been a fan of his since he was on Xena:Warrior Princess in the 1990s. He played bad boy Julius Caesar!

It's a shame Almost Human was cancelled. It was a really good show.

Yeah, I'm only in episode 4 and am already sad that it soon will be over. I read on IMDB that there are petitions to save the show but then we can't do that for everything. I also wonder how expensive it is with all the special effects? Apparently Fox also messed up, aired episodes out of order, and asked for single stories, instead of a longer storyarch.

Oh yes you must look for his Xena episodes! He played more than one character and according to IMDB he was in 12 episodes. Start with his first appearance as Caesar. :-)

This cabin is not a real cabin, it is in a park, and apparently where the park ranger lives or something. The park itself is public access. I think they also raise salmon in the lake.

The fun thing is that on Stargate the small pond looked like a huge lake. Everything looks bigger on TV! I really was disappointed when staying on the shore LOL

Last? No. Of course not. And as someone recently said, there is no statute of limitations on such things. ;)

As for seeing Karl, I saw him in Dallas and then at Dragon Con. He's a fun speaker, and he always comes out with a cadre of Judge Dredd cosplayers as an escort and it's pretty epic. That alone gives him points in my book, but the fact that this happened the first time I saw him made him epic. Here goes:

Fan, asking a question: "If you could have the autograph of any other guest here, who would it be?"

Karl Urban: *points to fan* "Yours."

Fan: *freaks out a bit and laughs* "No, really."

Karl Urban: "No, I mean it. Who's got a pen?"

*someone throws him a Sharpie and he holds open his jacket and has the fan come on stage and sign the inside lapel*

Now that's a cool dude who knows how to work a crowd.

Guess what? It worked. I adore him forever for that alone. Add in the Vulcan salutes and the quotes and the fact that he loves Judge Dredd like Dreddheads do and I'm sold. :)

I want to watch “The Loft”, that looks like an interesting movie. I intended to get it from the library this week but someone else has snatched it. I should put my name on a list for it.

I have given autographs to John Barrowman as well – when I gave him my action figure book, he asked me to sign it ;)

I should probably hit youtube to watch some convention videos with Karl. There must be some to find. I’m still very much pre-occupied with Vic Mignogna at the moment, though. Another cool dude. He used to be a cop, so a real life hero even! I saw a video the other day where he talked about some guys he arrested.

I made a list recently of all the guys I love at the moment and found that I have one for each day of the week LOL
