Hauls: A Star Trek sickbay pillow

Look what I bought! I've told you about Star Trek Continues before and how wonderfully they continue the original series with Kirk and Spock and how much like the original episodes it all looks - music, camera, lights, costumes, actors. I've also told you about the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign they have at the moment.
But for a long time I couldn't decide which of the goodies to get to support this wonderful series. There are t-shirts, autographs, scripts, episodes for download. There are also more expensive options like meals or chats with the actors, or even a walk-on role or a set visit.
But yesterday something got added that I couldn't resist: A pillow made from the sickbay cloth. This cloth does not exist anymore, Vic had let it woven especially for the series. And one of those 20 pillows is now mine!

There is a special story behind this. When
x_erikah_x recommended it to me, the first episode I watched was number 4, "The White Iris". It starts with a sickbay scene and I remember the moment I realized that the beds had the exact right bedcover. That was way before I actually got to see the re-built bridge or anything. It blew me away and raised my expectations to much higher levels. I had actually come in being willing to overlook small details, but for a fan-series this is produced quite professionally - but everyone works for free, the collected money all goes into the production.
I'm also thinking about getting one of those coins Vic Mignogna designed for each episode. They were given to cast and crew as a thank you and seem to be very popular, the first set sold out very quickly.

I'd love to wear their t-shirt for my picture with Vic at Fedcon in May but sadly they will be only sent in August.
So, even if you looked at the Indiegogo page before, make sure to check back regularly as they keep adding new things. We finally made it over the 100,000 dollars mark but are still far away from the goal. If anyone deserves it, they are. I am usually very reluctant parting with my money, but I'll happily give if it means I'll get more episodes (you can watch them for free though, funding is not required for that. Just follow the link I posted above)

Date: 2016-04-07 05:21 am (UTC)The posters are wallpapers if I remember correctly, so only for downloading for the computer, unless I missed something?
They had put up one coin first, for the first episode, and only 20 pieces. They sold out within two hours, I hadn't even known they were there. So now they put up all coins with 100 pieces even, and even more of the first one so everyone can get one. They are indeed very cool but sadly I don't have the money for all six of them either, so I will have to settle with one.
Originally I had been thinking about an autographed photo. Since I will get my autograph from Vic at Fedcon hopefully, I had thought of Chuck as I just love his Bones.
But then the pillows came along and it being only 20 pieces I thought I rather snatch it quickly before it's too late. Now I also need to wait for the next payday before I can buy more ;)
I also have 12" Kirk and Spock figures on pre-order, do you know about them? First a fan made them as no company in 50 years ever made really good figures in that size, they were only toy dolls with awful faces. But now Quantum Mechanix is selling them officially and they look awesome.
I also have 6" figures on pre-order, which in this size normally are only with plastic clothes, but these also have real clothes and many hands and a head for changing even. They all will arrive in July.
I posted links and pictures in my flail post here if you like: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/191015.html

Date: 2016-04-09 09:35 pm (UTC)There will be at least one more I guess. The goal has been set to 13 episodes altogether.
I also got the Galileo shuttlecraft. I love things where you can open doors and other parts and sit people inside. It's way cool. I hope that with the Mezco figures I will get a whole bridge set eventually. That is my biggest dream but too difficult to make myself.

Date: 2016-04-17 04:20 pm (UTC)And we are finally over 130,000 Dollars.
I also couldn't resist and bought a script that was used by Vic as a director of the fifth episode: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/196805.html
Too bad the t-shirts are only shipping in August. Would have been nice to wear it for my photo with Vic.

Date: 2016-04-09 09:20 pm (UTC)I wonder what else they will come up with! The fundraiser will be expanded till the end of May. That is good, as then the new episode will air and so more fans will hear about it.

Date: 2016-04-11 09:27 pm (UTC)If you have friends who are TOS fans and don't know about "Star Trek Continues" yet, please tell them. I'm sure they will be as blown away as I am by it.
I'll post a proudly update once I have the pillow displayed proudly on my sofa ;)

Date: 2016-04-12 05:56 pm (UTC)Not sure if you know, but one of the reasons why it is going slowly this time (past two Kickstarters went much better) is that CBS is having a lawsuit against another fanfilm. Well, they say now that they are only a fanfilm like everyone else, but in the past years they said they are a professional independent production and bigger and better than the original.
And they broke the big rule that you are not allowed to make any personal money. They paid themselves a salary and they travelled to conventions and everything, collecting more and more money for years (over a million) but never finishing the movie. We are quite afraid that CBS might now tell all other productions to stop as well, and that would be really sad. So far it hasn't happened yet though and that gives me confidence they know who the good guys are.
This is going on for three months now already. And instead of keeping their heads down, the sued people write all kinds of aggravating tweets and FB posts. They are also banned in all Star Trek forums for their behavior. So, if you ever read anything bad about STC it is probably coming from those people. Don't believe it!

Date: 2016-04-12 06:53 pm (UTC)Vic also has said clearly that if they ever tell him to stop, he will just do that, without any whining, and he is grateful what they have let them do so far.
One time youtube deleted one of their episodes, as they thought it was a real one. CBS actually helped them to get it back. That's how good their relationship is.

Date: 2016-04-12 05:59 pm (UTC)I read a question once where someone asked whether this cloth is soft or scratchy and they said scratchy ;) Because of the gold weave I guess. Well, soon I'll know for myself!
I have always been a huge Bones fan so something from sickbay certainly is fitting.
