Look what I bought! I've told you about Star Trek Continues before and how wonderfully they continue the original series with Kirk and Spock and how much like the original episodes it all looks - music, camera, lights, costumes, actors. I've also told you about the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign they have at the moment.

But for a long time I couldn't decide which of the goodies to get to support this wonderful series. There are t-shirts, autographs, scripts, episodes for download. There are also more expensive options like meals or chats with the actors, or even a walk-on role or a set visit.

But yesterday something got added that I couldn't resist: A pillow made from the sickbay cloth. This cloth does not exist anymore, Vic had let it woven especially for the series. And one of those 20 pillows is now mine!

There is a special story behind this. When [livejournal.com profile] x_erikah_x recommended it to me, the first episode I watched was number 4, "The White Iris". It starts with a sickbay scene and I remember the moment I realized that the beds had the exact right bedcover. That was way before I actually got to see the re-built bridge or anything. It blew me away and raised my expectations to much higher levels. I had actually come in being willing to overlook small details, but for a fan-series this is produced quite professionally - but everyone works for free, the collected money all goes into the production.

I'm also thinking about getting one of those coins Vic Mignogna designed for each episode. They were given to cast and crew as a thank you and seem to be very popular, the first set sold out very quickly.

I'd love to wear their t-shirt for my picture with Vic at Fedcon in May but sadly they will be only sent in August.

So, even if you looked at the Indiegogo page before, make sure to check back regularly as they keep adding new things. We finally made it over the 100,000 dollars mark but are still far away from the goal. If anyone deserves it, they are. I am usually very reluctant parting with my money, but I'll happily give if it means I'll get more episodes (you can watch them for free though, funding is not required for that. Just follow the link I posted above)

Even my action figures want to help with collecting money

I remember that cloth...great idea to create pillows. I hope they meet their target goal $$!

Thankfully, even if they don't match the goal, they can still keep whichever money was raised. So that is something.

Not sure if you know, but one of the reasons why it is going slowly this time (past two Kickstarters went much better) is that CBS is having a lawsuit against another fanfilm. Well, they say now that they are only a fanfilm like everyone else, but in the past years they said they are a professional independent production and bigger and better than the original.

And they broke the big rule that you are not allowed to make any personal money. They paid themselves a salary and they travelled to conventions and everything, collecting more and more money for years (over a million) but never finishing the movie. We are quite afraid that CBS might now tell all other productions to stop as well, and that would be really sad. So far it hasn't happened yet though and that gives me confidence they know who the good guys are.

This is going on for three months now already. And instead of keeping their heads down, the sued people write all kinds of aggravating tweets and FB posts. They are also banned in all Star Trek forums for their behavior. So, if you ever read anything bad about STC it is probably coming from those people. Don't believe it!

I see...interesting. So CBS is still letting people use the Star Trek trademark and copyrighted stuff if it's for non personal gain only? As Spock would say - Fascinating!

Yes, CBS is fully aware of all those fan productions. They will never officially acknowledge them, as that could mean trouble, but they are willing to look the other way and let them play in their sandbox as long as no money is made. That means, they are not allowed to sell DVDs for example, you can watch the episodes for free in the internet. All the people work for free, the collected money goes only into the sets and other costs. Did I show you the new engine room they built? It looks so awesome. Now we can have scenes with Scotty in the engine room.

Vic also has said clearly that if they ever tell him to stop, he will just do that, without any whining, and he is grateful what they have let them do so far.

One time youtube deleted one of their episodes, as they thought it was a real one. CBS actually helped them to get it back. That's how good their relationship is.

There were only 20 pillows, and they are all gone now. I will have a very special item. Worth paying 150 Dollars for I think. It's only money in the end, and you are right in saying as long as it brings me joy. It is a limited opportunity at the moment getting special things we won't get again anytime soon.

I read a question once where someone asked whether this cloth is soft or scratchy and they said scratchy ;) Because of the gold weave I guess. Well, soon I'll know for myself!

I have always been a huge Bones fan so something from sickbay certainly is fitting.
