Happy Canada Day!

Here are some things I bought in Canada on my trips to Vancouver in 2008 and 2010:

Wooden moose coasters, a totem pole, a bottle of maple sirup, two moose, one in mountie uniform, the other in yellow rain gear and a bag for the passport. I also got a suitcase tag with the skyline of Vancouver but it broke and I am not sure where I put it at the moment. Wish I could get a new one.

To the Vancouver basecap belongs also a hoodie. And finally the beaver on skis ;) I had seen that the first time and my brother wanted it, so I hunted for it the second time.

In 2008 I also got a rain jacket at the Capilano Bridge Park, but it has a German label so it doesn't really count ;) I still wear it to this day.

I really should put up some Vancouver pictures!

I have one of those maple syrup bottles shaped like a maple leaf, too! Not sure how I got it though... Gift from someone years ago. I have this weird affection for Canada considering I've never been there, I think it mostly stemmed from my love of hockey growing up. *g* I have a Canada keychain on my keyring and in my dorm rooms/apartments before I had to move back home I used to hang a big Canadian flag!

I also had maple syrup made and shaped bonbons and lollipops but these have been eaten already ;)

Well, I hope one day you'll get to see it with your own eyes! Depending of what you want. I'm sure there is also great landscape but I am more of a city girl. But we drove around outside Vancouver a bit and visited a lot of shooting locations for Stargate and MacGyver. I keep seeing them now when watching other stuff that is filmed there. Vancouver itself is a nice size - not too big. I felt at home immediately.

Waves from Canada!

It's a little after 10:30pm ish and crazy fireworks are going off right now - it's very loud lol!

Wish I knew someone who lived in Vancouver so I could ask them to get you a new suitcase tag with the skyline of Vancouver :(

It's been eight years, it may not exist anymore. Such things only are available for a short time and then get replaced with something new. I've tried to look online but to no avail. I found a Kirk one instead, I may get that for my next travel with my new occupation ;)

I still have the Vancouver tag, I won't throw it away, but I can't use it anymore as it may rip completely then and be lost. It was in the style like this one - from colorful gum. If I find it again, I'll post a picture:

It had the Canada Place in the foreground and ships in the harbour, and the skyline in the background.

Fireworks are always nice! Our national holiday is the 3rd October. That's when the two Germanys became one again in 1990. This year it will be Dresden holding the big celebration. Each year it is another one of the 16 countries. And this year it is Saxony of which Dresden is the capital.

I remember when the wall came down and watching it on TV. It seems like a life time ago and not that long ago either.

Yeah, I guess that means that we both have gotten old! I was 16 at the time. Nowadays children learn about it in school in historic lessons.

Ah....ok. I've seen one like that for Ottawa when I was there. I guess they must have one for Toronto then....I never look at merch for my own city lol.

Aside from a few booklets on the area, I ended up taking nothing home! Except *someone* gave me some top secret papers from SG-1 in 1:12 scale. ;)

Really? Can I meet her? She sounds like fun! LOL

Travelling, you're doing it wrong ;) At my first trip to London, I came home with a miniature red letter box, red phone box and Big Ben which even had a real clock inside. I love souvenir shops! Yes, most of it is kitsch, but sometimes you find real gems.

And with the Vancouver souvenirs I made sure to buy stuff that I actually use (the suitcase tag or the coasters) instead of things just standing around gathering dust.

14 days the first, 10 days the second. With such a long travel, you need to make the most of it. We saw a lot of things. Some may not be of interest to people who are not Stargate or MacGyver fans though.

Sure, you don't travel that far to go back the next day. I'm glad yo hear you were able to see many things, and to satisfy some fannish needs among them ;)

Glad you're thinking so too ;) This was the first time I went for any of those hoodies that were everywhere at the time, with writing of the city across. It somehow "spoke" to me.

Aside of that, I really tried to get stuff that is useful instead of just standing around. Whenever I use the wooden coasters I think of this trip and smile.

For the same reason I also try to not buy too many fandom merchandise other than action figures. But if someone enjoys drinking out of a Superman glass or eating from Star Trek plates, I love that. Bring a little fandom in your daily life. Its boring enough otherwise.

I also found the tag! It was still attached to the suitcase. It never occured to me to look there LOL This is what it looks like. I love the style. I've always had a special love for stuff that is graphic, simple, colorful, with black outlines, but yet "nice".
