It's one of the most famous and some say the best ever TOS episodes. McCoy jumps through the Guardian, arriving in New York in the 1930s, and with his arrival upsetting the time stream, which changes history in the way that now Germany won the war.
Kirk and Spock jump after him, to correct the timeline.
They are living undercover in New York for a few weeks, and Kirk falls in love with a woman, played by Joan Collins. In the end he has to let an accident happen that kills her, as this is the event that will make the timeline right again. So he gives up his love (he even expressed desire to just stay there forever and get away from his responsibilities as a captain) to save the world. Highly emotional.
