"The bananas would taste better if we baked them."
"You know how I am with starting a fire!"

But later, when Chakotay held her in his arms watching the sunset, he thought that being stranded wasn't so bad after all.

When the fire went out they went to bed. Moss was their pillow and palm leaves were their blanket.
"Good night, Kathryn."
"Good night, Chakotay."
Both, on cue: "Good night, monkeys!"

The next morning: "Captain, Commander, are you alright?" the doctor asked. Tuvok just raised an eyebrow.

"We are well," Kathryn replied. "Just preserving body heat. Thanks for getting us!"
But Chakotay could still feel her lips on his.

Date: 2021-01-15 09:14 pm (UTC)Seriously, if you have never watched Star Trek, Voyager is the perfect place to start. I don't know much myself, I have seen TOS from the Sixties with Kirk and Spock some years ago, and liked it, but had no desire so far to try out any other Trek series.
What about The Orville? Have you watched that? People think it is a parody but it is so much more. It's exceptionally good. And it's what got me back into the Trek mood, and I am so happy I chose Voyager. All the characters and actors are simply awesome, there is a great family feeling (they are stranded at the other side of the universe, trying to get back home, having adventures along the way).
It's such a Nineties show, not like they are today with one long story arc, but single episodes with a happy end. The perfect thing to watch to calm my mind in the middle of a pandemic. I don't think you would need any previous knowledge. I did struggle with the pilot admittedly, when not knowing anyone, but then the episodes after are all awesome. Also Star Trek is known for asking the right questions, about society. It's a bright future, as opposite to all the dystopian dark sci-fi of recent years. And sadly the recent Star Trek shows are no different, which is why old fans are criticising them a lot.
Finally, Voyager is a series well loved by women, with Kathryn being a wonderful captain.
Chakotay is her first officer, which means officially they are not allowed to have any relationship but there is a lot of subtext played. There's a reason why 25 years later the fandom is still going strong and new fanfictions are uploaded to AO3 each day. I have added a few myself during the past half year.
