Pictures part 2: US president Obama visits Dresden, Friday, 5th of June, 2009

Sorry it took so long, but here finally comes the second batch of pictures.

This is the Obama figure I took with me, and a lot of people asked where they could buy one. And a lot of camera teams interviewed me about it ;)





This picture shows the crowd watching the press conference at a screen at the Altmarkt (old market). Whole place was full of people:



I was not able to photograph the flags properly, due to the wind. From right till left you see: The flag of the United States of America, the flag of Germany, the flag of Saxony (white-green) and the flag of Dresden (black-yellow)

A lot of journalists and TV-teams from all over the world visited my city at that day. I've never seen the place so full of cars. The modern building in the background is called "Culture Palace", it is typical Eastern Germany architecture and I have seen countless stage shows and concerts in there and always had a great time. At this day it served as the press center:









Later the President visited the Church of our Lady. It was destroyed in World War II and only recently got rebuild with donations from people all over the world. I only could photograph it from far away, since the area he was in was closed down for security measures, but if you are interested in this building, I can show you more and nicer pictures.



This is one of the entries where you had to identify yourself. Only people working or living in that area were allowed in and had to get a yellow bracelet first, but not even those came close to where the President was.

Haha really? That's great! But we didn't know each other already, did we?

Looking at these pictures, I cringe how bad the quality is. I should have bought a new camera much earlier!

But have you clicked the other links as well? The party on Thursday evening was great fun, and then I was all over the TV news and newspapers with my Obama doll ;) I really need to find a way to digitalize my videos.

We only met online 2 years after that (I collect and sort LJ comments, in case you're wondering) and another year later we met in real life.

Yeah, I've seen the other posts too.
Ugh, googling what I need to digitalize my video collection has been on my to-do list for ages. I'm being held back by my laziness and my bad experiences with technology.

I'm afraid if I put the tape in my video recorder will eat it and then it's lost :( Maybe I should pay to have it professionally done?

Does yout VCR have a history of eating tapes or is that an irrational fear? If it's an irrational one, I'd put the tape in an make a copy by filming it first (unless you have a 2nd VCR).

I haven't used it in a while, since I got the blue ray player/recorder. If I remember correctly, it was still working fine the last time I used it. But it also is a few years old already and I have bought many video recorders and know that in the end they start to fail and eat tapes indeed. So I'll try first with a tape that is not as important, if that will work well, I'll do it. My brother only has to show me how to use this technology.

Ooh, you already have the hardware? If it works well, then I'll just get the same stuff you have and ask you how it works! :oD

My brother has it. As far as I understand, he ordered three different things but isn't happy with the quality of any of them ;) It's too complicated for my understanding.

But you are right that even if I use any of these, I still will be only able to burn it onto DVD or have it on a harddrive, but not as an internet file for uploading. So probably just filming with the camera from the TV sounds like the best option.
