At the moment I have 20 cm of snow on my balkony, and counting. It's snowed for the past few days now. Since Dresden is situated deep in a valley, usually the snow thaws away quickly, so I always love when it stays a bit longer.
I just realized that I never posted the pictures from the year 2010, when we had even more and the trams, busses, trains and planes got into serious trouble. But I hope I caught the beautiful side of it! So I want to show you how beautiful Dresden looks in the snow.
If you are interested in seeing even more Dresden in the snow, here are some more pictures when the Doctor visited me last year: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/39239.html

And now enjoy and don't forget to click the LJ cut to see all pictures!

Very pretty, although it looks very cold! I think I'd rather be indoors where it's a bit warmer.

Since those pictures are from 2010, I seriously don't remember how cold it was. But I took them in my lunchbreak, so it was okay. I didn't stay outside for long. It's true that looking through the window the world is much prettier LOL
Today I watched the neighbours and their children building snowmen. I think it already starts to thaw now.

I prefer to look at pictures of snow than the real thing, I get cold easily even indoors. We had a tiny bit of snow last night, but it's gone now. It's still freezing cold though. I have gloves and a hat on indoors and my feet are still frozen.

Oh yes, looking at this snow is much better from indoors lol It still hasn't stopped, it looks like a Winder Wonderland outside. I took a few more pictures of the trees with snow, beautiful.

The building on the third picture, as well as the fourth, fifth and sixth from the bottom, all belong to "The Zwinger". Here you can see many more pictures of it: http://tinyurl.com/a5pvs4k

These buildings were built by the king some centuries ago around a place to hold festivities, Like weddings and such. Nowadays a lot of museums are in there, for example the famous picture gallery. At the link there is one picture in the third row where you can look at it from above, so you get an idea of the layout.

The two pics with the open space - if you look carefully in the first, you see people walking. That way is parallel to the river Elbe, you also can see a bridge in the background. And the buildings/churches/castles at the left are at the other side of the river. It is a beautiful walk and the main silhouette of Dresden. You can see it better in those pictures when the Doctor visited me, it's the same place: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/39239.html (I work nearby so I had taken those pictures in my lunchbreak)

Wow...snow, snow everywhere.
I live in warm place. This winter there's no below freezing point.
Recently I kind of miss snow when I experienced as a kid.
It's getting warmer here.

Yes, lots of snow!
Did you live somewhere else as a kid, or are the winters just not as cold anymore as they used to be?
The snow already starts to thaw now, I see people make snowmen with their kids!

I moved 4 times but stay around Osaka.
I remember I gathered snow to make snowman when I lived in my first home.
My memory is less and less snow as I grow up. I'm sure winter here is not very cold anymore.
I love making snowman. There are no chance here.

I can honestly say that I have never made snow angels in my life. I have no idea whether it is just not usual in my family or if we want to go political and bring up the upbringing in the GDR again? Because surely, angels were not something that existed. They even went as far as to rename the wooden Christmas Angels we put up at Christmas time "End of the year wooden figures with wings" just so they didn't have to call them angels.

Or maybe it's just an American thing? I have to ask my Western German friends about it.

Then again, I guess my mother wouldn't have been too fond of me lying in the snow making the clothes wet ;)

Thank you, glad you like them! I remember I wanted them to post back then but then the snow had thawed away and somehow it did not seem to be fitting anymore. I'm glad that you reminded me of them!

I had no idea. I used to do it when we I was a kid and it snowed enough to cover the ground because it was the only time my parents would let me roll around on the ground. Mostly, I just made snowmen and had snowball fights with my dad.

Dresden is gorgeous at any time of year, but it is even more picturesque when covered in snow. Well done! I'm glad you've kept the snow over there. I love to look, but I'm definitely too old to touch... or walk... or drive on the stuff. ;-)

Thank you! I do live in a beautiful city indeed. I am quite lucky to have been born here!
It still hasn't stopped snowing. Looks like a Winder Wonderland outside. I agree though that it is nicer to look from the inside than actually being in it ;)

So you were not affected by this snow blizzard recently which affected a lot of my US friends? I wonder if the snow we have at the moment is the rest of that, sometimes you really can see how the weather makes its way around the globe. I don't need a forecast anymore as long as I read my LJ friends list LOL

Where I live in the southern US is sheltered between some smaller local mountains to the west and the Great Smoky Mountains to the east. We were surrounded by snow, but thankfully only got rain. We have only 1 plow in the entire metropolitan area and it goes downtown and up on the mountains. Those of us who live in the valley are stuck inside until the roads thaw and the snow melts. If roads don't dry completely before nightfall, then it turns to ice. Not fun! I can drive just fine on it because I grew up in Chicago, but I can't control where everyone else goes. ;-)

Wow, that's a lot of snow! It is indeed beautiful, and you got some great shots of it. I'm a little jealous. Winters have been much milder of late and this winter we haven't had any snow accumulation at all. It doesn't seem like winter without it, somehow.

Poor Green Arrow! LOL.

Even though there is a lot of complaining about the cold and winter right now (and really, enough is enough!) overall I think I live in the perfect country with four seasons. If you go more to the South it's always warm there, if you go to the North, they have several months of dark when the sun is not shining? No thanks!

So I can see why it would feel very wintery without snow. I also don't like just cold without snow. Gotta have the whole package!

I probably should show that picture to John. He might get a kick out of it!
