Lars Mikkelsen at "Elementary"

Hey, why did nobody tell me that the last picture I posted was huge! I thought I had them all downsized properly. Sorry for that. It's corrected now.
On we go with "Elementary" pictures, this one is Lars Mikkelsen who played Charles Augustus Magnussen in the third "Sherlock" season. And I thought he looked much younger in real life than in this role! Must have been the glasses.
At the photosession, I said, "Hi, I'm Antje from Germany" and he replied, "So we are neighbours!", since he is from Danmark.
Later I read in the convention booklet that he speaks several languages, and also German. So when I went to his autograph table, I asked about the German and he said, "Ich habe es in der Schule gelernt." (I learnt it at school).
You might also know his brother Mads Mikkelsen, who also is an actor.

Date: 2014-02-26 06:56 pm (UTC)I did not know him before Sherlock at all, I'm afraid. I might have seen his brother in James Bond, but did not check the name or anything.
In one panel Lars did juggle with apples on stage!

Date: 2014-02-26 07:13 pm (UTC)It took me a while, as in the beginning I only saw the usual charming guy he always is, but towards the end of season 1, he really had me. I had totally forgotten that this was "my" John and did believe this guy was real. That does not happen very often and is the highest praise I can give. In some scenes his eyes were so cold and when he suddenly exploded I really flinched. Great stuff.
Another movie where I totally forgot the actor is "Recovery" with David Tennant. Very moving, if you don't know it, and after five minutes you have forgotten that this is just an actor. It feels so real. Well done.

Date: 2014-02-26 09:11 pm (UTC)And we all agree that from the middle of season 1 the show had found their feet and then towards the end it just gets better and better, till an awesome finale which blew me away. And that's where his cold eyes came into play. I first saw them in "Desperate Housewives" where he also played a bad guy, have you seen this?
"Recovery" is actually on youtube, here is part 1:

Let me know what you think of it!
"Double Income no Kids yet" is just awesome. When I listened to this for the first time, I could not stop. I just wanted to know what happens next. The dialogues are so spot on, like real life is. Whoever wrote this, did a wonderful job. I often laughed out loud.

I loved Desperate Housewives, it was a great show. I often laughed out loud about all those funny one-liners, and yet they also managed to do real emotional scenes. All the women and their men were wonderful. I'm so sad it's over.
It's true, there are a few relationship triangle scenes in Arrow I could have done without, but overall it is way more mature than Smallville, I gave up on that as it indeed was a teenager drama. But Arrow has enough older actors to be of interest for me. Oliver's sister is the only teenager in that. You could always fast forward through those scenes and only watch the important things ;) They do have really great fight scenes, and also Stephen Amell puts all of himself into this role, he has trained parkour and does many of his stunts, there are videos of him training online. That salmon ladder alone is pretty impressive.

I saw him in one panel on Saturday. He did a second one on Sunday but I missed that as I was still standing in line for my Benedict Cumberbatch autograph. Apparently in this panel he did juggle with apples on stage. I saw him do it again later when they had to fill some time.
I tried to do some notes on Saturday but to be honest, I have much more from the Jonathan Aris panel. Because his questions were more Sherlock related, while Lars got a lot of serious questions re acting, and surely also about his other work but since I did not know anything about that and often did not understand the questions (people need to speak louder) the answers did not make much sense to me and I hardly found something worth writing down.
He seems to be a very laid back and rather quiet guy, and sometimes he let his humor show as well. He also apologized for his English but I don't see why! I'll see if I can come up with enough for a post!

How's the JB video watching going? And did you actually like all the Christmas songs I threw at you a while ago?

Date: 2014-03-07 10:10 pm (UTC)If they hadn't told me, I never would have seen that this guy and the one in the TV were the same, I think he looks much different in private! Much younger also. Must be the glasses - or the lack thereof.
As Sherlock cons go, this one certainly had not a bad group of stars attending! There were also some behind the scenes guys, Arwel Wyn Jones, Patrick Waggett and Tony Lee, but I did not take any pictures with them, and missed their panels as you have to have a break sometimes and eat something.

Date: 2016-02-18 10:37 pm (UTC)Sadly I missed his panel on Sunday as we were in line for hours for the photo with Benedict and I would not want to miss when my number was on. They were running late so the picture with Louise had to be taken on Sunday evening, after the convention already had ended officially.
As for Jonathan Aris, it was actually his first convention ever. He got invited very last minute and after hearing that Benedict was there he agreed to do it, thinking it can't be something bad if he does it! He knew both Benedict and also Martin before Sherlock already and again he agreed to do the show knowing if they are involved, it will be good.
