I bought this figure because it comes with a wonderful treadmill. It is a bit too small for my Flash but I wanted it anyway. It is awesome!

 photo DSC07549.jpg

I found it surprisingly hard to get a good running pose. The original Flash is quite wobbly, especially at the ankles (who nees feet that can bend sideways? I've never had that before). He often would tumble over to the side, or not stay in the running pose.

Then he was shown how it's done right:

Look at all the detail! It's amazing.

Cool!

Flash is my new fannish interest. Is that Cisco's cosmic treadmill?

Is that Cisco's cosmic treadmill?

Apparently it is! Although until now I didn't know the name. I must have not paid attention when Cisco named it. Since you are only recently watching, maybe you could tell me in which episode that has been?

I saw it in a picture by someone else and HAD to have it.

Welcome to the world of "Flash"! I like that show, it's cute and lighthearted. All the actors are cute too. Obviously, I am more interested in the older ones, Joe and Dr. Wells, but I like everyone and especially Cisco is very cute with all his fannish enjoyment and excitement. I hope they will make a figure of him as well. So far only Flash and the two bad guys Cold/Heatwave are out, and soon we will get the Reverse Flash.

I've forgotten - do you also watch "Arrow" or just "Flash"? Just wondering how the crossover episodes work for someone who does only know half of the universe. And now we all are supposed to watch "Legends of Tomorrow" as well. It's becoming a bit much.

I'm not sure I remember which episode - he calls it "cosmic" and of course, you know how Cisco loves to name things. Maybe in S2, when Jay looks at it? Hmmm - it'll be a hardship to rewatch (not!!!)

ETA: Wikipedia, believe it or not, has the answer, and it's a doozy. Apparently the "cosmic treadmill" is a real thing in the DC universe, and was built to allow speedsters to precisely move forwards and backwards in time. In The Flash, we learn that Cisco calls it "cosmic" in "Fury of the Firestorm" in response to Jefferson Jackson's question.

"In the TV series The Flash, a similar treadmill built by Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) is used to test Barry's (Grant Gustin) speed limits, monitor his vitals and other factors related to his speed. In "Rogue Time", Barry attempts to travel through time by running on the treadmill, in an effort to recreate his experience in the previous episode. He is unsuccessful, and Dr. Wells notes that the ability to time travel might depend on one's mentality, not the speed itself.[2] This treadmill makes brief appearances in the fourth, seventh and twenty-first episodes as well. In "The Fury of Firestorm" after Jefferson Jackson asks what kind of treadmill is Cisco replies 'Cosmic'."

Have you ever gone to Springfield!Springfield to check out the episode scripts? They are actually dumps from the closed captioning, but very useful. Here's the link to The Flash.

Of course, I prefer Joe and Harrison (in all his incarnations). I actually started watching it because I love Jesse L. Martin and Tom Cavanagh. I got hooked immediately and have been seriously bitten by the fic bug (written about 30k since the first of January).

It's not as light as I expected but def lighter than Arrow - it's sort of like the difference between Superman and Batman (except for the last Superman movie, though)

What really draws me in is the whole family component to The Flash. The overarching story is about protecting one's family - whether it's Barry trying to exonerate his father, or Joe watching out for his foster son, or Harry trying to rescue his daughter. Everything ties into family - even the villains - Hartley's been kicked out of HIS family, Len's protecting his sister, and I could go on and on.

I haven't been able to really get into Arrow - I've gotten about halfway through the first season, but I know the basic premise and I've enjoyed the crossover eps. They have inspired me to give Arrow another shot.

I have the first ep of LoT from iTunes and from there, I'll decide if I want to get the whole season. I can't stand watching commercial television anymore.

Plotting out a WC/Flash crossover that will not be cracky, because there's no reason why Harrison Wells is not Neal Caffrey's father (and there's a huge plothole in Family Business that explains that).

Oops, I wrote too much. This is part 1/2:

Ah, dumb me, of course I could have asked google. I keep forgetting about that. Thank you for doing the work!
I think probably all of the things Cisco names are “real” in the DC world. I read a lot in IMDB and there are people with greater knowledge who tell us where they stayed true to the comic universe and where they chose to stray from it. Also, in some cases like Diggle in “Arrow”, he is now in the official comics too. That’s quite an achievement.

I didn’t know that page with the scripts yet. I often search for scripts but hardly find any. Thanks for the link! I usually download subtitles as SRT files, which help me a lot in understanding the plots better.

I didn’t know Jesse L. Martin or Tom Cavanagh before, this is the first I see of them. My friend has recently become a huge TC fan and tells me all about the other stuff he has done and sends me links to interviews. But I have my hands so full with other guys at the moment, I can’t find time for yet another one ;) I’d be tempted though. I really liked how he was a father figure to Barry in the first season, and you liked him, and at the end of an episode they would remind you that he had another creepy side too. Then I forgot about that again when the next episode aired and he was nice again ;) Well done. And very interesting change in the second season now. Well played. I’d love to have a figure of Harrison Wells as himself.

What really draws me in is the whole family component to The Flash.

Yes, exactly! This is why I also liked “Lois & Clark” so much. I am not interested in villains and fights, I am interested in the characters and what being a super hero means for them and their relationships. This show gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, like “Call the midwife”, which is also highly recommended. And all the speeches they do, be it Joe or Barry or whoever, they are really touching. They could be too sweet, over the top, but they pull it off.

written about 30k since the first of January

Wow, that’s a lot! In fact, “Arrow” also brought me back to writing. Before that I had a dry spell for years. I was very active in the “Stargate” universe many years ago, but aside from a few short things in “Doctor Who” or “Torchwood” I couldn’t really find something interesting to write about these. Then we came towards the end of season 1 of “Arrow” and they showed us promotion pictures from the semi-finale that would air in two weeks. It inspired me so much that I wrote how I thought it would play out just from what I knew from the pictures. They “spoke” to me. And I guess some of my action figure pictures are spoilerish as well.

Recently I started to write in the TOS universe. What can you do, when it hits you it hits you ;) Unfortunately usually late at night, 2 AM, when I am supposed to sleep. I get the best ideas then.

Everyone agrees that “Arrow” really came to its feet and became awesome in the middle of season 1, so you are right there. From there till the finale of that season it was really good and consistent. Unfortunately it is also true that in later seasons the plot became a bit too twisty and not always logical, and characters not everyone likes got pushed to the foreground while others suffer. I still like to watch it, but it is now much more of a comic show than it was at the beginning when they tried to find a “real” explanation for everything. This is what originally hooked me. The real world, ordinary people aspect. Now everyone’s a superhero. Makes Oliver stand out less.

Without John Barrowman, I would have never heard of this show. So I guess you know who my favorite character there is ;) And especially towards the end of season 1 he really impressed me. I had forgotten that I watched “my” John and only saw this poor suffering man. It’s not often that an actor can do that for me. He’s also now written an official Malcolm Merlyn comic. It’s great that he created another iconic character there after Captain Jack Harkness. Got him lots of new fans also.

And part 2/2 of my reply:

We get a lot of funny and crazy pictures and videos from behind the scenes or conventions, they are all a great and funny bunch of people. You feel that they are really a family. Last weekend, the snowed in con, John and Stephen did the best they could to entertain the fans. I don’t fancy Stephen, he is the same age like my seven years younger brother, but you have to admire him for how he handles his Facebook page and interacts with his fans and how much he puts into this role, also the training of the parcour etc. Quite impressive.

You may not want to watch LoT before you haven’t seen more of “Arrow”. A lot of characters started out there and switch over now, and it may be good to know their backstories a bit better. I also need to watch it yet, because I like them all, there is also a former “Doctor Who” actor. Although I did not like how they spent so many “Flash” episodes this season to set up new characters like Hawkman and –girl. It did not feel like “Flash” anymore.

In Germany, we get two commercials in a one-hour show. I wonder how anyone in America can watch live TV with an episode hacked to pieces every few minutes.

I shall look forward to your WC/Flash crossover! I recently read one with WC and “Person of Interest”, which was really good.

A good friend of mine had tickets for Heroes and Villains, and she lives about 20 minutes from the convention center, but couldn't make it to the Sunday event. She's desperately hoping that Barrowman will be at the rescheduled convention (a picture with him is a bucketlist item for her).

I'll probably wait to catch up with LoT after the season ends and it's on Netflix - I found the Hawkman/Hawkgirl stories pretty weak, although I did adore the interactions between Team Arrow and Team Flash.

Aw, sorry to hear about your friend. That sucks. John was asked on Twitter yesterday but he said he didn’t know the new date yet so couldn’t comment. Apparently today it will be announced and then we’ll see. I’m sure he’ll do his best to come.
And if it is not this event then another one. He’s doing a lot of US conventions these days. Surely there will also be another one in the area again. If I have learnt one thing during the years: Never say never! There’s always a second opportunity.
(I may not be able to go to the next one he does in the UK as I already have tickets for a different event at the same weekend. Can’t be helped sadly. Then again I’ve met him so often, he won’t miss me ;) )

Just my tiny 3 cents - I have never watched Arrow but the crossover eps were ok, they've given us enough info to accept things as they are and there was no need on my end to do any frantic google searches to figure stuff out :)

Hiya! Weighing in with 2 or 3 cents is always welcomed, appreciated and encouraged! The more the merrier!

But you did watch at least the Arrow episodes when the Flash team was guest stars there? In Germany, for some odd reason, Arrow and Flash are on two different TV channels. So in case someone does not know about the other show and only watches half of the story, they may wonder why there was no resolution?

Like, in season 3 Barry started as a guest actor in Arrow, and it ended with him being hit by the lightning. For someone who does not know that he becomes the Flash, they might think he actually died?

It's really interesting how shows set in the same universe can have so different fans. I never understood how someone could only be a fan of Stargate: Atlantis but never have seen SG-1. I started with SG-1 and it was always my favorite show. I watched Atlantis as I felt I needed to know what was going on there, and sometimes it was great, but I never really was a fan of it. Not in the sense that I read or wrote fanfiction. But for many it is the preferred universe of the two.

But then I went and even though I liked Doctor Who, it was actually Torchwood that brought me really into the universe and fandom. So here it was I, liking the spin-off more than the mother show. While others did not like it at all, for being too dark, and all the sex stuff.

And I guess it's the same with Arrow and Flash? Arrow is much darker, Flash is lighter. Some prefer that, and some think it feels like a teenager show. Which is how I feel about the new Supergirl series. I am not bothering with that. I hope they won't crossover there LOL

Actually I haven't seen a single episode of Arrow, I figured out that at some point Barry was in the Arrow universe which is how they know each other but I never made the effort to actually watch the pre Flash ep and the other crossover eps... I should probably look up the season/ep number, I got 4 seasons of Arrow on hand so I could watch them :D

For the direct double-episodes, it should usually be the same number like the Flash episode. Flash airs on Tuesdays, Arrow on Wednesdays. But surely IMDB knows it better than me ;)

From: [identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com
The big one is Flash from the TV series "The Flash", which is a spin-off from "Arrow". I guess they did not really want to have the comic-book suit so they designed it a little darker and different. That seems to be a thing now, the latest Superman movie also had him in much darker blue than we know our Superman. Likewise with the new Supergirl series.

Oh, I see. I've seen the "evolution" of Superman's costume, looks like those costumes in general become more realistic, no pants-on-trousers anymore?

I hope that treadmill has a hyper-fast setting! ;)

no pants-on-trousers anymore?

Exactly ;) Also, no spandex. Not sure what the new material is. With the Flash, it looks almost like leather.
