I got this wonderful idea to make shopping bags from clothes labels from our dollhouse group. Just the other day I had bought some clothes so I went to work today. I even added some bottoms and sides with paper to make them bigger.

Look at the dark grey Rabe label, it even brought its own "foldable bottom" with it!

Even the black drawstring for the handle is re-used from the label. Nothing gets thrown away!

I have been looking for Christmas sweaters for years. Yesterday I found these tree ornaments. But there was only one sweater pattern so I bought the two socks as well, and today I cut out and sewed on different patterns so Kirk, Spock and McCoy all would have slightly different sweaters. All while listening to Christmas songs by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Seth MacFarlane. Lovely afternoon!

I have some leftovers which I will keep, I could make pillows or something for the sofa.

My little Ed was bored so I made him the Bolodon disks game. I hope he teaches me the rules so we can play together!
Made with Shrinky Dink, a plastic straw and some small beads.

I got this model kit for a vending machine from HobbyLink Japan. I left one side open so I even was able to put a light in!

https://hlj.com/1-12-scale-vending-machine-red-pkt050

I only had built the lab table set so far and that was snapped together so this was the first that I actually had to glue and I apparently made every mistake you can do

I bent the front side too much while trying to cut it off from the frames and ended up with a visible tear/break. And despite my best intentions I also had smeared glue on the front side so I ended up painting it red which does not really show thankfully. I also managed to get glue onto the clear pieces and trying to wipe that off with paint remover was not one of my smartest ideas... well the clear parts are now frosted glass and who says that can't be possible?

Finally I seem to have some parts left over but that is not my fault, the manual never asked for them. I also think they mixed up parts 11 and 12. Despite all this, I am still very happy with the result and I even managed to put a light into it.
I might want to look for some black square as base so I can rise it up a little for my larger figures. Ed is 6" but also bent over a bit.

I took a Spike body & Wesley head and made my own Ed Mercer action figure.

01-Ed

A lot of stuff had to be cut away. It's a nice figure and I was sorry to destroy it but I really wanted an Ed.

02-carving

I needed to cut a lot at the backside, they had this so the coat would flow but the jacket needed to be tighter.

03-Carving-2

I smoothed out all the crinkles in the sleeves and pants with Milliput. I also later added the collar and details like the comm at the sleeve. And I cut a little triangle into the t-shirt at the neck.

04-smoothing

I also changed the hands with wide-spread fingers to more closed fists.

05-hands

Originally I had just wanted to paint him blue but the paint I wanted to use had dried up and I did not want to wait till tomorrow to buy new one. So I found this cloth that was given to me back in 1989 for waving at a Socialist demonstration. I already used the yellow version for my customized Captain Kirk and now the blue cloth will fit Ed. It was a bit too dark though so I painted it with water color that is also from my childhood. I love how it gives the uniform a bit of texture. Not shown: I also had to alter the hairline of the original head plus make the blue eyes brown.

I was determined to give Alfred his grey coat from season 1 & 2 before “Gotham” was over. Studying it closely I realized there is more than one - with different buttons, pocket flaps, lapels and length. Hope he likes it!
The coat comes from Dr. Janosz Poha from the Ghostbusters line.
I also changed Alfred's original hands to some spare I had from Star Trek figures, and painted them black as gloves. His original hands have widespread fingers and always trouble holding stuff like a gun, the new ones are better.

We only got Barbara in this stripey Arkham prison dress but I wanted her in a nice dress. I made her shoes with Milliput and also shortened the skirt a bit. I mixed green with a bit of silver to get this shiny look, I think that might suit the Riddler as well!

But Alfred thinks the Court of Owls has been cloning people again...

Looks like I never showed off how I made my paneled wall even though I already had it as background in many figure pictures.

These are long stripes of cardboard, shorter stripes of cardboard and then many little small stripes of cardboard put in between. Fiddly work! But if you had go one stripe over the other the cross section would have looked odd.

At first it looked awful when I painted it with acrylic paint, then I got spray paint and it looks so much better (although a bit darker than I originally had intended)

When I have an idea, then I have an idea. I don't want to wait till Monday to go to the craft shop to buy supplies, it has to be done immediately or never! So today within a few hours, using colored paper that is in my stash since my childhood (seriously, original East Germany papers here) and a punch that I bought years ago, I made this flower chain.

I used the fish that is the second from left, and cut off the biggest fin. Don't tell anyone... I also used little beads that are even from my mother's childhood to separate the paper snippets, otherwise I would have had to make three times as many and it was hard work as it was.

This is a teaser preview for a proper Alfred on vacation picture! Stay tuned!

I have the bestest co-worker ever! Today he brought me this - apparently it is leftover from pieces for a puzzle game for his little son. It's already folded and stands like that, looking like a room-divider. I don't even need to paint it as it already has a kind of wood design.

All I need to do is glue some paper behind, as at the moment the holes are see-through. I just can't decide whether to use simple white paper or to go for something more fancy and colorful. What do you think?

7 Inch figures for size reference.

My first attempt of making thin wire glasses for Dr. Strange did look a bit odd, but I am more than happy with the second try! As you can see, the original the figure came with is way too thick and you barely can see his eyes. I did not like it at all so I set to work.

Some months ago we watched the "Shaun the Sheep" movie with my mother and she commented on how she loved the spider and wants one. We often jokingly say things like that, but I made her one for Christmas!
I used an old cellulose ball from a stash that my grandfather had given me back in my East Germany childhood like 30 years ago. Some wire I had left from making the Gotham police precinct railing, and the rest is Milliput.

I customized the floor of the Buffy library. I wanted it to be dark wood. I was not a fan of the glaring white plus I want to look it less Buffy and more general library.
But in case I ever want to sell it as original (never!) I did not glue it, just tape cardboard to it. I also plan to make the walls dark brown. Much better, eh?

So for my scene with Alfred smashing the record player I needed broken records.

I used FIMO and one original plastic record to imprint the lines into them. Then just added some green paper in the middle. That pen tip is for making the hole.

The funny part is, I should have baked them properly to harden the FIMO but was impatient so just used hot water, thinking it would be enough. Turned out that they stiffened but still easily broke by themselves when I was picking them up. But since that was what I wanted anyway I didn't complain ;)

Look [livejournal.com profile] athousandsmiles what I did with your furniture!

Today I repainted some of the dollhouse items. I did not like the original light brown color of the furniture.

For the companion set I just mixed black and silver and now it looks much more metallic. My pictures and the light are not the best, but it was plain boring cheap black plastic before.

I also added some gold to both.

I feel nostalgic so here's the first make I ever did for my Stargate SG-1 action figures. I wanted a stretcher and figured it's just a cloth between two wooden sticks. I rarely ever sew, but here you saw me sewing ;) Quite simple but it did exactly what it was supposed to do.

There is a whole story behind this, one day I might post it. I didn't have LJ at the time yet.

Yesterday I macgyvered something of which I am very proud. You know that I have all those paper backgrounds, but they were too big to fit under my kitchen shelf. So I always had to lean them against the front of the shelf, with some bookends for support at the backside and if that wasn’t enough I would attach them with cellotape. There has to be a better solution, I thought, and then I remembered this peg that I’ve had for so long that I don’t remember where it came from. But I always knew there would be a use for it one day.So today I put some thread through it and knotted it to the shelf and now I can switch my backgrounds very easily by just clamping them. I am very proud of this time time saving solution. No more crumbling backgrounds in the wrong moment! Yay!

I built this Star Trek TOS biobed. I scanned, resized and printed the original red-brown-golden cloth from the Star Trek Continues sickbay pillow. The switch are two small beads. The rest is just cardboard and styrofoam. And spray paint, a lot of spray paint! Can’t wait to set up proper scenes. Please click the cut to see more pictures of how I built it!

After Carla Marie from the "Gotham" prop department announced that she wanted to show my self-built miniature stuff to the art department (see all the tweets here, I felt under pressure to finish my railing ;) But it was good that way, as sometimes you lose steam and then it lies around for months without getting finished. I really wanted this to get done and I think it came out great!

We had a four day long weekend last week and so I was hard at work every day. Mostly it is just cardboard. The aluminium rings were built in the craft shop, as well as the black wire. The handrail was made with layers of cardboard and then smoothed out with Milliput. To get the mahagoni paint I mixed black, brown and red.

It does not look exactly like the original, it would have to be much bigger to be in scale. I simplified the layout. See some in between pictures behind the cut:
