I took some more snow pictures today!

This was the view that greeted me when I stood up in the morning. Apparently it had snowed through the night.

This is what it looks like when you actually can see something:

And then I did something useful with the snow on my balkony. It was supposed to become a camel, but because of its sturdy legs and short neck, I thought it rather looks like a turtle, so I quickly adapted and made it what it clearly wanted to be LOL

OMG what a great turtle!!

btw, you probably know this but just in case: stay away from trees when it snows. the weight of the snow can cause branches to suddenly snap. we've had deaths in parks this way.

Thank you!

Yes, they write about that in the newspaper when it is dangerous. We have a wood nearby the city where it is great to have a winter walk, but when there is too much snow on the branches then the way get closed down.

But the weirdest death goes to the guy whose hand was frozen to the handle at a stairway (apparently he wasn't wearing gloves), and apparently he could not free himself, and since it was very cold that night he froze to death. Isn't that awful? :(

It looks lovely! I adore snow so long as I don't have to drive in it. *g* If I have to be cold, it should at least be pretty when I look out the window.

And I love the tortoise. I know you were going for camel but when I saw it I immediately said TORTOISE!

Well of course once I realized that it never would become a camel I changed it ;) (question: Is there a difference in the meaning of the words "turtle" and "tortoise"?)

I agree that it looks much more prettier from inside. Did you also see the pictures I posted yestrday? They are from 2010, even more snow back then.

Three things:

1) Holy cow that is a lot of snow for Dresden. Admittedly, here in Minnesota, we have had several snows already this winter that have dropped at least 7 inches (approx. 18cm).

2) I LOVE your snow turtle. Very creative!

3) Turtles and tortoises are both reptiles. Turtles spend most of their life in the water and tortoises spend their life on land. They have adaptations for their respective lives. This is really the only difference that I know between the two.

Thank you for explaining - so far I used turtle for everything that had a shell, not thinking there was a difference.

The snow pictures are neat! Looks like here, hehe.

I really like the turtle! I've been meaning to do something fun like that for a while now, but I never get around to it! Maybe I should do that sometime soon. :3

Thank you! It was still snowing at Easter. It has stopped doing so now but is still very cold and snow laying around.
So that is why the weather is not getting better - it waits for you to get creative! Could you hurry up a bit, please? ;)

The snow turtle is so creative and I love the photos! Now, I wish we had some snow only because I want to go outside and make something silly with the kids from across the street.

A veritable winter wonderland! So pretty. That turtle is awesome--clearly it wanted to be that, and not a camel. :-p

Are those buildings across the way apartments?

From: [identity profile] dieastra.livejournal.com
Thanks again! And you're right - it wanted to be that and nothing else.

Those buildings are apartments indeed. In fact, it's where I used to live before and my parents still live there. In between there is a soccer place and also some gardens.

Here are a few picture what those buildings would look like from close up - backside and front side with balkonies: http://www.dresden-architekt.de/iwb0.html

If you remember my mail about living in the GDR, these are the concrete buildings I refered to. They are made from concrete slabs which already had the window inside for example. Also the bathroom was a complete cell which just got hooked on the crane - that way they could erect buildings very quickly, as lots of people lived in cramped spaces. One concrete slab was a whole wall.

Six floors, two apartments on each floor, and when you visited a friend you felt at home immediately as the layout was always the same. Only one way where to put the sofa and where the wall of cupboards ;) In the beginning, they also all had the same wallpaper, before people did their own.

If you have any more questions I'm happy to answer them!

I guess I need to change that sentence. It's a bit misleading. What I meant to say was, once I realized this never would become a camel, I reshaped it into a turtle of course. So the result is on purpose ;)

Glad you like it! It's already thawing now.

Aw, would've been nice to see some work of others. You have to catch the right window when you actually can do something with the snow, because usually it's too fluffy. So it needs to be thawing already.

or when you get a (usually big and fluffy and beautiful) fall that's that really sticky (nasty heavy to shovel, sigh) consistency that will soak every material it encounters immediately :)
